Whatsapp’s Voice Calling Feature Shows Up In Leaked Screenshots

Whatsapp’s new voice calling feature which has the potential to disrupt voice communication in emerging markets and beyond, is supposed to land in the app soon. We know the launch is close because now the upcoming voice calling feature has been leaked, according to some screenshots obtained by iPhoneItalia. The screenshots show the supposed Whatsapp voice calling feature on iOS.

Whatsapp’s voice calling feature will enable users to make calls to their contacts using both WiFi and cellular connections. The screenshot show the Call in progress screen which has options to disconnect, mute, message and putting the call on speaker. Another screenshot shows the chat window having an info button, probably the place from where you can initiate a voice call. The presence of the message button on the call screen means that users will probably have the ability to send messages even during a call. This could probably be useful for sending links, articles, images and so on.

Another screenshot shows that the message input bar at the bottom of the screen will have a camera button added. This will help people to access the camera quickly. Normally, users have to access the attachment option to get to the camera.

The authenticity of these images remain unverified. However, if true then this feature definitely looks to be a game changer, especially in a country like India which has a huge Whatsapp user base. It remains to be seen if Voice calling is a smartphone only feature (iOS, Android) or if it will be available on all mobile operating systems.
