BrownTape Raises Funding From Seedfund And Ganesh Krishnan To Expand Operations

Seedfund and Growth Story’s Ganesh Krishnan have made an investment in Browntape eCommerce Pvt. Ltd. The investment amount has not been disclosed. Browntape runs a SaaS based service which is targeted towards the growing breed of online sellers in India who are taking advantage of the framework provided by online marketplaces such as Ebay India, ShopClues and Snapdeal to establish their online retail businesses. These sellers have a need to maximize the visibility and availability of their products by listing them on multiple eCommerce platforms.

Normally, this would be a headache since you have to deal with processes and inventory on multiple platforms which have their own way of doing things. Browntape wants to solve this tedium by integrating inventory and sales related processes into one dashboard that these online sellers can access. Currently, the platform supports integrations with eBay, Amazon, Paypal, Shopify, Magento, Flipkart, Tradus, Shopclues and Rediff in addition to offline stores.

Once you have set up these integrations with these various platforms, Browntape fetches your order details automatically and shows them in one place. It eases the printing, packing and shipping processes. The biggest benefit seems to be that the service lets you handle your inventory much better. Currently, they have multiple pricing plans but a merchant can start of with them for free and will only get charged when sales cross 100 orders a month. They are planning to launch a multi-channel catalog management tool which will let users add products to Browntape which in turn publishes these products to online stores that have been integrated with it. This will add further ease for online sellers in the country.

The company has a 500 strong seller network currently. It plans to use the funding raised to strengthen it technology team in addition to its sales and marketing operations. The company was founded in 2012 by Piyush Goel and Gurpreet Singh has already been part of the GSF Accelerator batch last year.
