Drones Sacrificed for Spectacular Volcano Video
Drones are proving to be a very helpful tool at capturing some of the most amazing things, from video of whales pods from above, to a mysterious UFO literally zooming across the sky, to this incredible volcano. A team was sent to Vanuatu Island. Drones were then sent out to capture some spectacular footage.
Video technology and science converge on an active volcano in Vanuatu, where explorer Sam Cossman operated camera-mounted drones to capture high-definition images of the spectacular yet dangerous Marum Crater. Cossman and his team piloted the drones over the 7.5-mile-wide (12-kilometer) caldera while confronting toxic gases and boiling lava. Although two drones succumbed to the harsh environment, the team was able to bring back video and photos that will help scientists learn more about the volcano and the life around it.National Geographic

I raised my binoculars to view a small plane as it circled for a fourth time nearby.
Up and to the right of this white plane was another small object. As the plane was at the three O’clock position in it’s turn, I made the decision to stay focused on the small object because I’m thinking ‘Drone.’… (Finally)
Suddenly I realize that this object is taking on a metallic gleam (head-light like) as it is gliding straight towards me and the sun behind me. (probably the only reason I saw it)……
It halts maybe 10-15 ft. away from me nearly completely motionless. It’s probably the size of a large pencil eraser.
I have it in a good steady focus, as I am accomplished with the use of binoculars. After about 10 seconds it seems to realize it has been discovered as it turns up and to the right to leave, again, in a gliding type of movement.
That’s when I decide to take down the binoculars to see if I could see it with my naked eye as it leaves but I could not because it was far to small and transparent..
