Addicted To Retail (ATR) presents: Chanel glass brick facade remodel by MVRDV in Amsterdam.

Anyone stopping by the Chanel store on the busy shopping street PC Hooftstraat in Amsterdam will find themselves face to face with a one-of-a-kind architectural wonder. Nestled in between the centuries-old Dutch houses is a storefront made entirely from solid glass bricks.

Created by Dutch architects MVRDV, the building was painstakingly created to match the original historic construction. The translucent glass bricks make up the lower half of the building which seamlessly diffuses into the terra-cotta bricks above.

To bring these bricks to life, the architectural firm had to create entirely new tools from scratch, such as a transparent adhesive bonded with UV rays. Even more bizarre construction techniques had to be employed to create the invisible aesthetic, including the use of full-fat milk to layer the bricks.
