Huawei Honor V8 unveiled with dual 12MP cameras and 5.7-inch display
Huawei released its latest flagship smartphone, the Honor V8, in China. The device brings a metal unibody, a dual 12-megapixel camera setup, and a fingerprint sensor at the back. The Honor V8 has been priced at CNY 2,299 ($353) for the entry-level carrier-specific variant with 32GB storage but no NFC. The higher-end variant with NFC and QHD display costs CNY 2,799 ($430).
The Huawei Honor V8 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display covered by a 2.5D glass, and buyers can choose to go either with a 1080p display or a QHD display. Other features include a dual 12-megapixel camera setup with ƒ/2.2 aperture, laser autofocus, and dual-LED flash at the back, but there’s no Leica branding this time around. The front-facing camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and an ƒ/2.4 aperture.
In terms of hardware internals, the device equipped with the top-end Kirin 950 chipset that has an octa-core CPU (4xCortex-A72 + 4xCortex-A53 cores), 4GB RAM, 32/64GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, and a 3,500 mAh battery. Connectivity options include a hybrid dual-SIM card slot, LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC (in the top-end variant), and a USB Type-C interface.
The Honor V8 runs EMUI 4.1 on top of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The top-end variant of the device with a QHD display comes with Kirin 955 chipset and 64GB storage. The device is available in three colors: gold, rose gold, and silver. The device is now available for pre-order in China, and will go on sale on May 17, 2016. It would compete with the upcoming OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi’s Mi 5, which was announced earlier this year.
