It seems that Xiaomi is working pretty hard this year. The company has released a bunch of smartphones in first half of the year: the entry-level Redmi Note 3, the Mi 4s, and the high-end Mi 5. It has also launched its biggest smartphone yet, the Xiaomi Mi Max. Providing consistent updates to its devices has become a trend.

MIUI 8 is based on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), which brings some exciting new features to compatible devices. As announced by Xiaomi, the update started rolling out from the 1st of June in the China. Also, the global rollout was expected to happen on the 17th of June, and now the devices are receiving the update. The MIUI 8 China Developer ROM version 6.6.16 is said to be more stable than the Alpha and Beta ROMs that are currently available for download.

MIUI 8 Features

  • MIUI 8 introduces two new features that are designed to improve battery life: the power-saving mode, which freezes background apps and tasks in order to keep the phone running for as long as possible.
  • Camera improvement and enhancements to the gallery app that comes preloaded on Xiaomi devices. These include new sharing controls, improved multiple photo selection, and support for various doodles and stickers. Video editing has also been improved, and overall, the gallery app is said to be more storage-efficient.
  • High quality wallpapers: Users can pick their favourite categories, set the frequency for changing wallpapers, or wait for the wallpaper to be changed daily.
  • New notifications toggles: Users can also customize new and existing notification toggles in the settings menu. You can get detailed more information for flashing the update manually on device.

Also, the company is launching two new devices that are rumored to be Mi Note 2 and Mi 5S, an upgraded version of the Mi 5. The company recently launched the Redmi Note 3 and the Mi 5 in India, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, which is priced at INR 9,999 in India, has quickly went on the become the best-seller.
