This Insane Window Design Converts into a Balcony Within Seconds

At first glance, the Velux Cabrio looks like an absurdly large window. It could even pass as a solar panel. But see it in action, and you’ll soon realize why its size seems so ridiculous.

Simply put, the Velux Cabrio is an ingenious window design that converts into a balcony when the user wants to bring the outside world in. The top half of the window fashions into a roof while the lower half extends out with room for one or two people. Multiple windows can be arranged side by side to form an even bigger ‘balcony’.

The window’s ThermoTechnology is said to insulate and provide an airtight seal for the window, just in case squirrels try anything funny. But if you’re suffocating inside your attic, you can still use a top control bar to allow filtered air into the room through a ventilation flap.

It doesn’t come cheap, though. Depending on the size and materials used, a Velux Cabrio can cost anywhere from $2,534 and $7,446—but considering the alternative of building a balcony from scratch, this could come off as a bargain.
