The Civil Secretariat building in Srinagar had just one flag on Sunday. The state flag of Jammu and Kashmir was removed and the top of it was left with the Indian national flag, flying high and proud.
The Article 370 from the Indian Constitution was revoked on August 5, stripping the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir. The move of BJP-led government at Centre also bifurcated the state into two union territories, separating Buddhist-majority Ladakh from the rest of the state.
With the removal of Article 370 the Jammu and State became an integrated part of India in the truest sense.
The decision of Article 370 revoking was announced by Home Minister Amit Shah on August 5 in the Parliament. He blamed that the article obstructed development in the state as well as prosperity of the people.
Amit Shah added the Article 370 helped in flourishing terrorism in the region.
State officials said Sunday henceforth only the flag of India will fly on top of government buildings across the state.
Lately the process of bringing down state flag from top of government buildings is being seen across the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured a new dawn of peace and progress will be seen in Jammu and Kashmir.
