Forget Cubes: LG’s Latest Refrigerator Makes Round Craft Cocktail Ice On-Demand

These days, refrigerator manufacturers are adding just about anything—from touch displays to kid-friendly storage drawers—to appeal to today’s modern consumers with discerning tastes.

And as America’s taste for craft cocktails continues to increase, it would make sense for LG to install a craft ice maker in one of their most expensive refrigerator offerings, the InstaView Door-in-Door Refrigerator with Craft Ice Maker.

Let’s start with the basics though: apart from the craft ice maker, the fridge has all the bells and whistles you would expect for a $4,399.99 modern chilled food storage container to have: you can store your kids’ junk food and your diet meals in its cavernous 30 cubic-foot storage cavity where ‘LG’s three cooling technologies blast them with a chilling wind; a Linear Cooling feature makes sure the inside of the fridge always stays within 1°F of your chosen temperature setting; a Door Cooling+ releases cold air through even the hardest to reach areas of your fridge (especially at the back where all the leftovers live).

And perhaps not necessarily on every modern fridge, the live-streaming display InstaView Door-in-Door screen lets you find the location of your food before opening the door, which could help you save on some of those energy bills—assuming you are worried after spending nearly $5,000 on a fridge.

But what about those ice makers?

While the LG LRFVS3006S has both a cubed and crushed ice dispenser, it’s the craft ice maker that will catch your eye—particularly if you’re a connoisseur of craft cocktails or otherwise impressing your dinner party.

With the craft ice maker, users can dispense several perfectly round ice balls without having to mold them one by one, which is pretty much the only other way to obtain the craft ice.

Considering the whole “craft” part of crafted ice is thrown out the door with this automate maker, it might be more impressive to continue to make your own with a silicone mold. That said, for the appliance connoisseur who has everything, why not add the ability to have craft ice on demand to your kitchen arsenal?
