Competing bat cladogram based on genes

From the Sulser et al abstract:
“Phylogenomics of bats suggests that their echolocation either evolved separately in
the bat suborders Yinpterochiroptera and Yangochiroptera, or had a single origin in
bat ancestors and was later Iost in some yinpterochiropterans.”

We can’t trust gene studies (= phylogenomics). Genes too often recover untenable results and do not test fossils like traits do (Fig 2). With genes you’re stuck testing cats and mice.

Once your cladogram starts off on the wrong path,
like nesting cats as the proximal ancestor to bats, it’s going to be hard to trust any other results. And with genes a bit of trust is involved. Better stick with traits you can see, measure, trace, color and reconstruct. No trust is needed.
