2G service has been around since the 90s. With the subsequent rollouts of 3G, 4G, and now 5G, however, there’s not much need for 2G anymore. In fact, both Verizon and AT&T have already shut down their 2G services.
Notably, T-Mobile has been a holdout in this area. Finally, though, T-Mo will shut down 2G service on April 2, 2o24, according to some internal documents seen by The Mobile Report. To help get customers off the 2G network in time for the shutdown, T-Mobile is giving away free phones.
