Lucid Unveils Gravity Electric SUV

Lucid Group has unveiled its latest electric sport utility, the Lucid Gravity. The luxury EV will be priced at about $80,000 and will compete as a high-performance, seven-seat option. Projected driving range is 440 miles per charge with production beginning in 2024.

The Lucid Gravity is based on a new platform developed from the ground up. It uses Lucid’s proprietary powertrain technology on a new iteration of its 900-volt architecture. Acceleration is expected to be 3.5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph with a payload capacity of over 1,500 pounds and a towing capacity of over 6,000 pounds.

The Gravity’s exterior is focused on aerodynamics with a coefficient of drag of less than 0.24. That’s better than any current three-row SUV on the market. Yet the Lucid SUV still has over 112 cubic feet of usable cargo space with the second and third rows laid flat. Lucid says that the Gravity is large enough that adults can comfortably sit in all three rows.

Inside the new Lucid Gravity is what the company calls it’s latest evolution of its user interface: Clearview Cockpit. This features a 34-inch curved, uninterrupted OLED display that sits above the steering wheel and stretches across the left and middle portions of the dashboard. Lucid’s oblong steering wheel design is meant to allow easy viewing of this display and its gauges and functions without distraction.

New for the Gravity SUV is a Zero Gravity optional air suspension package that adapts suspension cushion to various terrain needs automatically. Manual adjustments can further maximize that for off-road or performance driving.

Charging rates for the Lucid Gravity are “ultra-fast,” the company says. Up to 200 miles of range can be added in about 15 minutes via 350 kW DC fast charging.

Production for the Gravity will begin in late 2024 with deliveries for the 2025 model year. Prices starts at just under $80,000 before delivery.
