Hyundai and Kia have announced the development of a new tire with integrated snow chains that can be deployed at the push of a button. The new technology uses shape memory alloy modules integral to the wheel and tire which can be deployed to act as snow chains with an electrical signal.

RecycLiCo and Zenith Chemical Form Joint Venture in Taiwan
RecycLiCo Battery Materials and Zenith Chemical Corporation have received approval from the Taiwan government to form a 50/50 joint venture for battery recycling. The first collection point for the venture will be in Vancouver, Canada with plans for global expansion forthcoming.

U.S. and Canada Create Rail Decarbonization Task Force
The task force will establish a joint research agenda to test the safe integration of emerging technologies into the rail systems of each country to lower carbon footprints and improve efficiencies. The goal is to transition from diesel-powered locomotives to zero-emissions options by 2050.

Warsaw Adds 12 More Solaris Electric Buses to Fleet
The Warsaw Public Transport Authority in Poland has signed a contract with Solaris Bus & Coach to receive delivery of 12 articulated Urbino 18 electric buses in 2024-2025. The buses will be delivered in four blocks, the first group arriving in the autumn of 2024.

Blue Bird, Generate Capital Establish Electrification-as-a-Service Joint Venture
Blue Bird and Generate Capital have announced a joint venture called Clean Bus Solutions to help accelerate the adoption of clean transportation solutions in North America. The joint venture will offer electrification-as-a-service with fleet rent and leasing programs to lessen the up-front cost of advanced electric school buses.

Volkswagen Adding Bi-directional Charging to Some ID Models
Some models of the Volkswagen ID family will begin offering bidirectional charging with the “Vehicle to Home” function. With VW’s system, using the integrated Home Energy Management System, from HagerEnergy, customers can combine a photovoltaic, EV batteries, and the grid to manage power consumption efficiently.

Volvo Opens Public EV Charging Network at 15 U.S. Starbucks Stores, More Coming
Volvo Car USA and Starbucks have opened the first of a planned network of fast charging EV stations in the United States. Fifteen location with 50 DC fast chargers (from ChargePoint) are now publicly available between Denver and Seattle on a 1,350-mile route.

Hyundai Announces Pricing on All-New 2024 Kona Electric
Hyundai Motor Company has announced the pricing structure for the all-new 2024 Kona Electric, the battery-electric model of the newly redesigned Kona. Pricing begins at $32,675 for the base model and tops out at $41,045 for the topmost Limited model. Not including destination charges.

Kia Announces Pricing for 2024 Sportage Plug-in Hybrid
Redesigned in 2023, the Kia Sportage will now have a PHEV model coming for 2024. The Kia Sportage PHEV will have two trim levels, starting at $39,490 plus destination. Fuel economy estimations are not yet available.

GM, Komatsu Collaborate on Hydrogen Fuel Cell Mining Truck
General Motors and Komatsu are co-developing a hydrogen fuel cell power module for Komatsu’s 930E electric drive mining truck. The truck is the world’s best-selling ultra-class haul truck and uses a diesel generator to power its electric propulsion.

COBRA Researchers Develop Cobalt-free Lithium Battery

Westport and Partners Demonstrate Hydrogen-Powered Transport
Westport Fuel Systems has announced the successful completion of a heavy transport demonstration alongside KAJ Inrikes and other partners. The hydrogen-equipped prototype truck pulled a trailer with IKEA home furnishing products using hydrogen combustion alone.

SafeAI, Obayashi Unveil Retrofit Electric, Autonomous Haul Truck

First NEVI-funded Charging Station Opens in Ohio
