2024 Kia EV9 Three-Row Electric SUV Introduced

Kia has introduced its three-row electric vehicle, the EV9, to the automotive media. With four trim levels, two battery size choices, and either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drive option, the EV9 aims for family needs in a battery-electric platform.

The Kia EV9 is separate from the similarly-sized Kia Telluride, with a distinct design and interior when compared. This is a purpose-built EV rather than a retrofitted current model. As a three-row, though, it is large with a length of 197.4 inches (or 197.2, depending on trim choice), making it slightly longer than the Telluride. It is otherwise dimensionally similar.

The interior of the 2024 Kia EV9 sports two 12.3-inch display screens (a digital instrument gauge cluster and an infotainment screen) as well as an optional 12-inch full-color head-up display. Seating for 6 or 7 people is available, with a second-row bench or captain’s chairs. The third row offers 32 inches of legroom, which is similar to the Telluride and adult-friendly. Tri-zone HVAC and USB-C plugs for each seating position are standard in the EV9.

Two battery option choices for the EV9 include a 76.1 kWh battery in the standard models, utilizing a 215 horsepower motor on the rear wheels. An optional 99.8 kWh battery is available in the same setup, but with 201 hp. Both battery options are on a 800-volt architecture. Kia does not give EPA estimated range for the standard battery, but does list up to 304 miles of range for the larger battery option. All-wheel drive models add another motor to the front axle, increasing horsepower to 379. Towing is rated at 5,000 pounds for AWD models in the Land and GT-Line AWD trims.

The 2024 Kia EV9 is entering dealerships now with limited availability due to its import status. That will change later in 2024 when Kia’s plant in Georgia begins producing the EV9.
