Argonne National Laboratory is projecting that battery cell production in North America will exceed 1,200 GWh or capacity by 2030. That is enough to supply 12 to 15 million new electric vehicles at a battery capacity of 80-100 kWh per vehicle.

Oak Ridge Polyphase Wireless Power Transfer System Achieves 270kW
Researchers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have successfully demonstrated a 270kW wireless power transfer to a light-duty electric vehicle. The demonstration with a Porsche Taycan was done in collaboration with Volkswagen using ORNL’s polyphase wireless charging system at 95 percent efficiency.

Ryvid, Sosa Metalworks Partner for Custom Electric Motorcycle
Ryvid and custom motorcycle builder Cristian Sosa (Sosa Metalworks) have partnered for a uniquely-designed Ryvid Anthem Electric motorcycle. The two California companies are offering models of the collaborative e-bike for sale.

BMW Group Plant Regensburg Using Autonomous Electric Transport Vehicles
BMW introduced an autonomous transport vehicle at its press plant in Regensburg as the first step in its “iFACTORY” plans. The driverless platform truck handles internal transport of press tools and steel blanks for the production line.

Toshiba, Sojitz, CBMM Unveil Ultra-Fast Charging Electric Bus Prototype
Toshiba and Sojitz of Japan and Brazilian niobium producer CBMM have completed development of a next-generation lithium-ion battery that uses niobium titanium oxide (NTO) in its anode. A prototype E-bus powered with the new battery achieves ultra-fast charge times of about 10 minutes with high energy density.

Wartsila Launches 1st Large-Scale Hydrogen-Ready Engine Powerplant
Wartsila has launched the world’s first large-scale 100 percent hydrogen-ready engine power plant. The engine can run on 100 percent hydrogen, as certified by TUV SUD.

Cellcentric Begins Production of Fuel Cell Systems
Cellcentric, a joint venture founded by Daimler Truck and Volvo, has started pilot production for fuel cell systems at its Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt site. The joint venture aims to supply fuel cells at a large scale by the end of the decade.

BMW Has Canceled €2B Battery Order from Northvolt
BMW has canceled a long term order for battery cells from Northvolt. The company says that the €2 billion order was canceled so that Northvolt can instead concentrate on next-generation battery cells. BMW is instead upping an order with Samsung SDI to replace the undelivered batteries.

Electrify America, Rocky Mountain Power Collaboration Brings New Fast Chargers to Utah
Electrify Commercial, a division of Electrify America, and Rocky Mountain Power, a part of PacifiCorp, have announced the opening of their first hyper-fast charging stations in Millcreek and Vernal, Utah. The collaboration plans to bring a total of 20 charging stations to the Salt Lake City area.
