Eolophiodon. What is it?
Below are two figures (Figs. 1,2) that show Eolophiodon with related taxa and with convergent taxa.
Which is which? Figure 1 are marsupials. Figure 2 are placentals.

Convergence is rampant throughout the Chordata.
In the Mammalia convergence is also present between unrelated marsupials and placentals.

Here’s your chance
to enter the world of trait-based phylogenetics. Problems like this are faced by paleontologists every day. IMHO only software can resolve issues like this – when scoring is correct. That’s the issue at present: correcting all data.
For the current hypothesis of interrelationships, see the large reptile tree (LRT, 2322 taxa). This may change tomorrow, but those odds decrease with every review of currently tested taxa = housekeeping.
In any cladogram every taxon more or less affects every other taxon. Most LRT branches are strong. Several in the mammal subset of the LRT are so fragile that changes to opossum scores result in changes to seal topology. That’s one reason why recovery is taking so long.
The above examples of convergence illustrate this problem well.
