Finger 5 in Eudimorphodon
The posture of Eudimorphodon in situ
(Fig 1) presents the left folded wing in dorsal (when flying, lateral when folded) view. So finger 5 should be clearly visible – if present. Previous attempts to find this tiny, useless vestige on this specimen failed.
Here (Fig 1) is finger 5 disarticulated in situ, some parts atop the right pteroid, traced in DGS colors. Finger 5 is reassembled on the white box alongside a complete undamaged pteroid and a second splintered pteroid without resorting to freehand mishaps.
This is how Digital Graphic Segregation (DGS) works. It’s falsifiable with another DGS tracing from an independent worker. This is how we show others what we see with a minimum of interpretation and no black outlines with callout arrows leading to abbreviations, all of which add clutter traditional paleo imagery.
DGS first appeared in 2003 in the Jeholopterus tracing (Fig 2).
Also shown (in dark blue) is the radiale forming a cup for articulation with round bottom pteroid (in pink). Other workers preferred the pteroid to nest in the preaxial carpal (yellow).
I don’t know what that green crescent is atop metatarsal 5.
