William Galvin - Let the Democratic Party Games Begin in the US Massachusetts Senate Election Results

Washington, DC – The results of the hotly contested Massachusetts Senate Election will have to be certified by Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin.  This puts Mr. Galvin in the national spotlight if indeed the election results are closer than expected.

Reminiscent of the 2000 Presidential Election vote certification, William Galvin may find himself in a similar situation as then Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris.  Katherine Harris had to certify a vote that was literally to close to call.  William Galvin should not have the same problem as most believe Scott Brown will have a fairly decisive victory at the polls. 

The issue for Mr. Galvin is the speed in which he would certify an expected Republican Scott Brown victory over Democrat Martha Coakley.  Behind the scene Democratic maneuvering is surely at a frantic pace as the Presidents agenda would be at risk if indeed Scott Brown is successful in his bid for the open Senate seat.

Earlier in the day, Galvin, the long time Democrat, declared that he would immediately pass along any “decisive” election result to the United States Senate.  He stated that he would send a letter notifying them of the results and “it’s then up to them as to what to do with that”.  Clearly, Mr. Galvin is covering himself if indeed there is a United States Senate  delay in the swearing in of possible Victor Scott Brown.

In a move that makes it clear that the Coakley campaign, as well as the National Democratic Party are extremely stressed, Channel 5 in Boston is reporting that the Coakley Campaign has already registered a protest with the Secretary of State due to alleged tampering with ballots and has asked his office to investigate.  The Coakley campaign alleges at least 5 ballots were handed to voters by election officials with Scott Brown’s name already filled in as the selection on the Ballot.

This would put William Galvin directly in the crosshairs of the election certification process.
