Reviews of Formulas Books in Free Survival Library

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Below are are some short reviews of some of the books  in the Formulas Category in the Free Survival Library at Lighthouse Survival. There are almost 30 of them but there are a few that stand out and should be on your Download list first of all.

If you get nothing else in the Formulas Category get the First Two listed below, save them in a safe place or better yet print them out and put them away where you will be able to get to them if ever needed.

You might also find yourself reading through them and trying out some of the formulas and recipes for your own use. For instance… for the cost of one week of commercial laundry soap you can make enough of your own to last you for a couple months and it cleans better.

Wagners Chemical Technology – 1872
If you had to rebuild a modern industrial and technological world from scratch, this is the essential book of formulas you’d need. It covers just about every basic material and compound used in a modern industrial world. While it is light on the uses of many of the substances and compounds, it is thorough treatise on HOW to make them.

Henleys Twentieth Century Formulas – 1914
(One of my favorites) A large collection of adhesive formulas, alloy production, how to make celluloid, cleaning agents, curry powder, Worcestershire Sauce, cosmetics, essences and extracts, glassmaking, pyrotechnics, homemade refrigeration, artificial rubbers, variety of soaps, virtually every page contains something that will catch your interest and you’ll find something you want to try making yourself.

Chases Recipes – 1869
How to make  many different types of vinegar, artificial Honeys, various wood treatments and dyes

Chemical Recipes – 1896
Lots of dye, pigment and glaze formulas

Encyclopedia of Practical Recipes – 1872
Contains a wide variety of basic chemical compounds, such as ether, nitrous oxide, chloroform, glues, various industrial acids, etc. Many other formularies assume access to various compounds common in the 1800s. This formulary explains how to manufacture those compounds.

Handy Mans Workshop and Laboratory – 1910
Interesting collection of varied techniques for making lathes, drills and saws then powering them with treadle or pedal power, instructions on building batteries and an electric car.

Mackenzies Ten Thousand Receipts – 1865
Another encyclopedic collection. Oriented in large part to farmers.

The Household Cyclopedia Receipts – 1873
Oriented to the Household and contains many common formulas and information. Most interesting is 40+ pages of detailed rules and instructions for many older indoor and outdoor games such as cricket, Whist, cribbage and many other card games you’ve probably never heard of.

The Laboratory Vol 1 and Vol 2 – 1799
Lots of industrial and laboratory formulas for manufacturing basic compounds. In volume 2 there is a long section on the various methods and techniques of making sundials or various types.
