Looking To Increase Your Crops? Try These Organic Gardening Tips!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

In order for you to have a successful organic garden, you will need to take really good care of it. A little extra gardening know-how doesn’t hurt either. This will make the fruits and vegetables in your garden healthier and taste better. Utilize these tips to create a garden that stands out as an organic mecca of beauty.

TIP! Using a solution of aspirin and water can prevent certain plant diseases. One and one half aspirin crushed and added to a two gallon container of water will be a great help for your plants.

If you want to get children in on the fun, plant a few strawberries, everbearing if possible. Small kids enjoy picking fruit themselves out of a garden. Because of this, they’ll be more likely to provide you with some assistance in your garden if they feel like they’re receiving something out of this.

Water containing some aspirin helps your plants fight illness. One and a half aspirin, dissolved in two gallons of water, can be a great addition to your plants. Then spray your plants with this mixture to stave off diseases. Be sure to repeat this process every two or three weeks.

TIP! If you’re growing plants indoors, keep your thermostat around 65 or 75 degrees daily. Indoor plants grow best at these warm temperatures.

One of the problems that people come up against when trying to grow organic plants indoors is a lack of natural light. If your dwelling does not enjoy a great deal of natural sunlight, it makes sense to grow only those varieties meant to thrive in such environments. If your plants still need more light, there are always artificial light sources that you can use.

Have all of your tools available to you as you garden to increase efficiency. Put them into a basket you carry with you, or use an apron with many pockets and hanging loops. Have gloves, shears, a trowel and anything else you need handy for quick use.

TIP! You must consider how much light is available when starting your plants indoors. If your windows are small or receive little light due to their positioning, a plant that requires little sunlight will be more comfortable and healthy.

Have plastic bags on hand so that you may cover your muddy gardening shoes. You will be able to go in and out without having to keep taking your shoes on and off.

Pine Needles

TIP! It is simple to prepare your garden for perennial flowers. With a garden spade, slice under the dirt then flip it over.

Believe it or not, pine makes great mulch. Some garden plants are high in acidity, and do better with acidic soil. If that’s the case, the easiest thing to do is use pine needles for beds. If you spread a few inches of pine needles around your garden beds, when they break down, the acid they contain will leach into the soil.

Add used coffee grounds to your soil. Coffee grounds are full of nitrogenous nutrients that growing plants need. Your plants will really bloom if they get the nitrogen they need from coffee grounds or compost or diluted urea.

TIP! To be most efficient in your gardening, always keep your tools close at hand. Wear pants with multiple pockets or use a toolbox or large bucket.

An old laundry basket makes a great way to gather your harvest. This will be like a strainer for all your produce. Rinse the produce while it sits in the basket, the extra water will go through the holes in the basket.

When you’re making a compost pile, you should use fresh and dried plants to get it started. “Green” material refers to things like wilted flowers, weeds, leaves from your yard, and grass clippings. Your dried material can be things such as sawdust, paper shreds, wood shavings, straw and cardboard. Certain substances will undermine your composting efforts and cancel out any benefits; these include meat, charcoal, ash or plants that have diseases or fungal growths.

TIP! Use approximately two or three inches of natural, organic material as some mulch in every single flower bed. Using this much mulch retards weed growth, locks in moisture, and ensures that your plants are well-nourished.

Lightly ruffle your seeds by hand or with cardboard, twice daily in your organic garden. That may sound like a silly thing to do, but it’s been proven to help plants grow larger than they would otherwise.

Use untreated stone, brick or wood to build raised beds. Be sure that any wood you use isn’t chemically treated, and will be able to resist rot naturally. Good choices are cedar, locust and cypress. It is particular important that you don’t use treated wood for vegetable beds, as the chemicals and toxins on the wood could leach into the soil and be absorbed by food plants. If you are already using treated lumber, you can use plastic liners, or a different barrier, in order to protect your garden.

Organic Gardening

Organic gardening will help you create a truly fresh and nutritious garden. Although organic gardening isn’t easy since you have to put in time and effort and wait for results, the health benefits make it worth it.
