Hygiene – Keeping Clean in a Survival Situation

In a SHTF situation, many urgent needs must be met:
Is there enough food?
Is there a source of clean water?
Is there a safe shelter?
Is there a means to protect yourself and your belongings?
Are my teeth clean?
Wait, what? Believe it or not, good hygiene should be near the top of your list when it comes to survival situations. There are many reasons why hygiene is important in a survival situation.

First it can literally be a matter of life or death.There are many places in the world that can attest to that fact. Keeping yourself and your living area clean will reduce the amount of bacteria and pathogens that might jeopardize your health.

Second, it will help keep your mental well being intact. I have fortunately never been in a survival situation but I do know how a nice long shower will lift my spirits after a 20 mile hike.

You can start stocking your personal hygiene items now before you need them. Make sure you have plenty of soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper or any other items you need to stay clean.

If you don’t have the store bought variety of hygiene products, you can make your own. Take for instance this chew stick we discussed a few months ago.

So don’t forget in your survival preparation the importance of good hygiene. It will make living a lot easier.
