We’ve been blogging for over a year now and the fact that people are interested in what we say and do still amazes me; there are A LOT of great blogs out there. That said, here are our top 6 posts for 2013:

1. How to Prepare for an Economic Depression: 9 Steps for the Average Joe

This article received a ton of exposure and controversy because there really is no “perfect plan.”  People will disagree on how to prepare for an event like this because everyone’s situation is unique and not everyone is willing to accept the recommendations I outlined (as was evident per this comment here).

2. Why Rabbit Meat is Not The Best Survival Food

This was our most commented post ever aaannnd it was inaccurate. Rabbit meat is a great survival food especially for suburban homesteaders like ourselves. I wrote this article using only one source of information and while is an awesome book on food and health, it didn’t really jive with a modern homesteading/survival situation.  So, foot in mouth, I wrote this follow up post as a correction.

3. DIY Deodorant That Really Works

This is a guest post I wrote for the hugely popular blog, The Prairie Homestead.  This recipe for homemade deodorant works really well -give it a try!

4. The Absolute Easiest Way to Grow Tomatoes (Vlog)

I consider ourselves below average gardeners. Okay actually, we just plain stink. However, that didn’t stop Brian from discovering this trick that works like a charm. YouTubers loved it.

5. Economic 9/11 Series: How I’m Financially Preparing

Truth be told, I’m expecting an economic collapse to happen in America and it turns out, I’m not the only one. It may a slow collapse (which is better for you and I as it gives us more time to prepare) but nevertheless, a collapse. Get ready people.

6. How We Became Debt-Free: One Couple’s Story

Becoming debt-free was one of the largest milestones we’ve achieved so far and I think readers found our story encouraging. We think debt freedom is the first step to self-sufficiency, so  if you have debt we hope you’ll take this year to square it away.

Gotta tell ya, I’m excited for 2014. We have a few financial hurdles to overcome but after that the sky’s the limit for our self-sufficiency goals.
