5 Best Countries To Move To Before the Coming Collapse

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

They say home is where the heart is, and the family.

But if home becomes a sinkhole and a threat to your life and your family, one is left with a difficult choice.

Some say it’s cowardly and unpatriotic to abandon a sinking ship and escape to a better setting. I agree. I would like to stay until the last minute. The thing is that you’ll never know for sure when it’s your last train.

Jews who left Germany before the WWII, lived a lifetime in other countries (like the USA). They had kids, they became grandparents. Those who stayed were starved to death and killed together with their families.

Related: Scare Them Off Or Shoot Them Dead?

This week I tried to find some other countries (in 3 of them I’ve already been to) in which I may live a similar life with the one I live here (together with my family), but safer in so many ways.

The criteria for determining the best safe haven countries were:

  • social stability
  • fewer enemies
  • economic freedom and opportunity
  • freedom of self-expression
  • self-sufficiency
  • cost of living
  • ease of visas and residency
  • insulation to western collapse or wars

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a mountainous country a lot like Switzerland, but located in a warm, though not tropical part of the world. There are a number of valleys where most of the people live but there are lots of mountain nooks and crannies to get lost in.

Here is an actual account of an American survivalists who retreated to Costa Rica a few years ago and started a new life there:

“Costa Rica is quite small (like West Virginia) and is relatively close to the Equator, but the country actually contains about thirty different climate zones, with the temperatures ranging from 90 degrees on the beach to the low 50’s in the mountains. What that means among other things is that you don’t need to worry unduly about heating in the winter nor air conditioning in the summer. Also, the growing season is about 365 days long!

The soil is incredibly rich and farming is very easy. Fruit trees and berries considered expensive rarities in the states grow like weeds here. Also, for its size, the country is blessed by an abundance of water, since the country lies between the Caribbean and the Pacific and the mountains running the length of the country ensure lots of rainfall. Rivers are everywhere and the mountain streams are crystal clean. All electricity is generated by hydro!” (Source)

Costa Rica is a safe Heaven!

The only problem with Costa Rica is that it’s really expensive to obtain a permanent residency there.

According to the government of Costa Rica an US citizen has 4 alternatives for obtaining legal residency. You are eligible if:

1 – If you are receiving a lifetime pension such as military pension, social security or state retirement benefits of no less than $1,000 US per month. They even stated that “We have many retired military retiring here who are in their forties and are qualified pensionados” (Source)

2 – If you have a guaranteed income of $2,500 per month;

3 – If you make a deposit to a Costa Rica bank in the amount of $60,000. From this deposit you will be paid at the rate of $2,500 per month for 24 months. This residency is for two years after which it must be renewed (another 60,000) or you must leave the country. Not cool Costa Rica, not cool!

4 – If you are an investor, who has at least $200,000 or more invested in Costa Rica

The government is so restrictive because they are going thru what out southern border is going thru: a lot of Colombian and Mexican immigrants.

Sweden

Few people know this, but Sweden isn’t part of NATO, so in case of an all-out war it has a big chance of staying aside, just like it happened in the WWII.

But at the same time, Sweden is part of the European Union. And that has a lot of benefits like traveling in all Europe countries without visa. And if you obtain a citizenship, all you need is an ID.

If the Euro collapses, Sweden will not be very affected, since they don’t use Euros (they have Swedish krona – SEK).

I’ve been to Sweden myself and I can tell you that English is their second language. Everybody speaks fluent English there.

Sweden has been for many years the country with the highest salaries in Europe.

It’s expensive to live in, but at the same time you can find a better paid job than here. My cousin, who left United States to live there (20 years ago) now earns 10K / month in construction.

He pays around 35% Tax and has Full Healthcare (everybody has there) until the day he dies.

Malaysia

Malaysia has one of the most robust economies in Asia, and this is reflected in the consistently high standard of living available to locals and expats alike.

On a modest budget, you truly can savor a life of luxury there. For as little as $5, you can enjoy an excellent meal, with a bottle of wine setting you back the same price. The street food is similarly scrumptious and one of the true charms of Malaysian cuisine.

New Yorker Thomas O’Neal speaks about his new life in Penang (Malaysia):

“I rent a 1,600-square-foot apartment with an amazing pool, just five minutes’ walk from the ritzy Gurney Plaza shopping mall. It costs me just $850 a month. I don’t need a car, either, so I’m saving money left, right, and center.

I love the weather – 82 F on average – and the ease of getting to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan and Laos. When you combine that with a cost of living of $1,500 per month, including my rent, it’s almost unbeatable.” (Source)

Because they were a British colony, English is widely spoken by locals, making it all the easier to adjust and find your way around.

Malaysia’s economy in 2014–2015 was one of the most competitive in Asia, ranking 6th in Asia and 20th in the world, higher than countries like Australia, France and South Korea.

Between 2013 and 2014, Malaysia has been listed as one of the best places to retire in the world too, with the country in third position on the Global Retirement Index. This in part was the result of the Malaysia My Second Home program to allow foreigners to live in the country on a long-stay visa for up to 10 years. Here are the requirements:

  1. Applicants below 50 years old are required to open a fixed deposit account in Malaysia of $72,000 at any bank with a local branch.

After a period of one year, the participant can withdraw up to $36,000 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. However, a minimum balance of $36,000 must be maintained from the second year onwards and throughout stay in Malaysia under this program.

  1. Applicants 50 years old and above are required to have a monthly off-shore government pension of at least $2,300 and have a bank deposit of $36,000

After a period of one year you can withdraw up to $12,000 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. However, a minimum balance of $24,000 must be maintained from the second year onward and throughout your stay in Malaysia.

Chile

Chile is today one of South America’s most stable and prosperous nations. It leads Latin American nations in rankings of income per capita, state of peace, economic freedom, education and low perception of corruption.

There are a lot of opportunities and vast expat communities in Chile

Chile is a fully developed country with modern cities and a rich countryside with stunning views of the Andes Mountains from almost any location.

Chile maintains a lower cost of living than North America especially for rent and fresh food. Americans can get a tourist visa (good for 90 days) on entry to Chile for a cost of $160.  Residency requirements in Chile are relatively flexible. Escapees can qualify for a Chilean Retirement and/or Income Visa by proving an income of between $500-$1000/month. Entrepreneurs can get residency by starting a business and foreigners can easily get a visa by working for a Chilean company. (Source)

Tasmania

Tasmania is an island state that is part of Australia (country) with half a million population.

TAS has plenty of water and fertile ground. It’s completely safe from every nuclear war or war of any kind. Nobody will ever bomb TAS (it wouldn’t be cost effective).

Related:  Did you know that US Air Force accidentally dropped two atomic bombs on North Carolina?

The whole island is about the size of South Carolina and about 45% of Tasmania is National Parks, Wildlife Reserves, etc.

It has mountains and hills so it’s pretty safe from tsunamis.

There is a LOT of land per capita, so buying a farm is pretty cheap. Here’s an idea:

“I saw a news piece a while back about a whole town for sale – houses going for $20k etc. Rename it Preppertown.” (Source)

On top of this, it’s Australia, so everybody speaks English (sort of).

The only downside of this heaven is that winters (actually summers) are cold and daily products are pretty expensive (like gas). And the Christmas is in full summer (actually winter). It would be weird to adapt living in the South Hemisphere (and kind of cool).

Obtaining a VISA is really easy. In most cases all you need to do is prove you have a skill that they need and that you would like to settle there to work. Australia is about the size of the USA (without Alaska) with only 23 mil inhabitants, so they’re always looking for skilled labor force.

Or if you want to invest in a farm or buy land… that will also do it.

Again, I don’t want to leave America and I probably never will. But I want to find a country where I can move to in two weeks if things get really, really bad.

What other countries do you think are the best safe havens and why?

Generally, you have to be quite wealthy to relocate,or have a steady income without working. Not cool. You forgot, though, that in case of an economic collapse those countries will be equally affected as their banking systems are directly connected to those western. So you’d probably find yourself with no money,in a strange land, with no friends and relatives, soon on the street. That’s when you might starve like the Jews in Germany.Back home you always have more possibilities to survive.
P.S.And it’s way better to know Spanish in Costa Rica and Chile than English.

the best country to move will be Russia. They will win the war against the decadent West.
Their is space enough. And they have nearly no Musels.

      • Anonymous

Russia is not that easy to move to. They have a very strict visa control and you just can’t go and sneak into their country illegally as you will be found and detained almost indefinitely at a detention center for sometimes up to YEARS. The Sibeia far east area is not crowded but housing there stinks. You get a home with a very dinky bathroom and dinky kitchen and dinky rooms. This goes for all of Russia. There are few and no jobs there either. Had a Russian friend who told me all about Russia and it was not that appealing when she got done. You cannot even join their military unless you are Russian. You can marry a Russian to stay in the country though… but you just can’t go and park your ass there.

You’ll find when September has come and gone that you’ve been “hyped” by the doom and gloom-ers — again. Mark my words, it’ll be little more than a repeat of the Y-2-K experience. Why are you even thinking about fleeing the country? Why not do something positive like looking to the Lord and trusting in him alone — and not in your own “ingenuity” and “strength”?!?

      • Big dog.../small fish...

Or at least they could try to make their lives better by seeing the positive around them…

      • apache5

        petsan,
I hope you are correct my friend BUT, do not compare Y2K, there is NO comparison, this is completely a new ball game and what you might wish to consider is the fact about how long has the wolf be crying, and at some point something will happen, there is tons and tons of info, (factual) that we are entering some very difficult times and who knows how bad it is going to get but mark my words, it is coming this time and soon!

        • Twsmithfl

Yes, I agree with you no comparison to Y2K. If your a Bible believing Christian, I think the safest place to be is Israel. God’s chosen people and he will never allow Israel to be destroyed.

          • LAStreetPreacher

The current nation of Israel is not God’s chosen people anymore. This is what the Zionists and the false Protestant churches of America and around the world want you to believe. God divorced Israel and Jesus pronounced judgment on them. In A. D. 70 Titus destroyed Jerusalem and scattered the Jews all throughout the world.
There is a small remnant of believing Jewish Christians today but most are still in unbelief. In fact a majority of the Jews during Jesus’ time rejected Him as their Messiah. The gospel went forth to the Gentiles while the Jews remained in unbelief and still do for the most part til today. A false Messiah is rising on the scene who will deceive the whole world. The Orthodox churches teaches that the anti-Christ will be a homosexual Jew.

        • dr.petestan

          Apache 5,
What I’m saying is when October 1st rolls around – and that’s only 30 days away – you will be able to look back and say, “What happened to all those predictions of devastation? It’s nothing like what they said.”
Lindsay Williams, Jonathan Cahn, and many others have made specific (and some not so specific), dire predictions of calamity that they say will definitely (not maybe) occur over the next 4+ weeks. What I’m saying is that those predictions simply are not true.
Will the stock market be down? Undoubtedly it will — and perhaps significantly.
Will the war in Syria heat up to unprecedented levels? No doubt about it.
But, will there be “apocalyptic” events that will devastate the U.S., the world — so much so that your way of life is changed forever? Definitely not!
Time will tell — and you will see.
          Blessings.

          • dr.petestan

What will happen with these dire predictions will be something like when Pat Robertson “prophesied” several years ago that a devastating tsunami was going to hit the west coast of the U.S. There was a tsunami alright, and it did happen to hit the Oregon, just as he said. The only thing was: it was only about 5 feet high and hardly anyone even noticed! It was just a big wave — nothing more.
OK. This time around events will come together in a “fast and furious way” so that most people will take notice. But will these events cause you to personally be confronted with a crisis of a life-changing proportions that will make you wish you had moved to a “safe” haven? That’s not going to happen.
If you want to get all worked up by a bunch of “hype” and start making plans to move to some supposedly “safe” country overseas, that’s your prerogative. I suggest, however, that you calm down and hear from the Lord as to whether that’s what He advises you to do.
            Blessings.

          • dr.petestan

Important correction: I just found out that Lindsay Williams did not predict that a meteor or comet will hit the earth on September 24th. Evidently Michael Moore is misrepresenting (lying) about what Lindsay said in order to discredit him when the supposed prediction fails to come to pass. Apologies to Lindsay Williams.

            • Mayhem

Well that’s something you don’t see everyday in the bin. Someone owning an error, making amends, adapting their paradigm and moving right along on their merry way.

Well done, petestan, whoever you are – respect.

        • Mayhem

@apache5 & Twsmithfl. The comparison to Y2K is entirely warranted? Was Y2K not the doom-porn prophecy of its day? Was December 21st 2012, of Mayan fame, not quintessentially the same thing in its day? Why should this date be any different?

      • GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN

petsen The only problem with your Y2K comparison
        1. No talk about a chip in my hand
        2. No Russians setting fires fire’s in Washington State and Tenn.
        3. No Howitzers with Russian markings
        4. No trains with shackles
        5. No jobs, No F E M A camps, No Coffins we are about to pay for 300 years of bad karma. INSTANT KARMA’S GONNA GET YOU, KNOCK YOU RIGHT OFF YOUR FEET (john lennon)BETTER GET YOURSELF TOGETHER DARLIN BEFORE IT’S TO LATE.
6 Total monetary collapse the more money we print the more we are screwed
7Every economist from Paul Craig Roberts who worked for Reagan to Gerald Celente, Andrew McGuire, Peter Schiff, Jim Sinclair,
You don’t get it the President is a Muslim, Communist who gave Washington, Oregon and Montana and some of the Alutian Islands to Russia. I am confused you don’t see the writing on the wall you don’t even see the wall. I believe in God you know what he says to me. Use the brain I gave you.

        • dr.petestan

Yes, indeed, the world is in a terrible mess and is getting worse by the day — everywhere. No doubt about it. A person would have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to be aware of it. Are we moving closer each year to the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning the End Times? Absolutely.
But if you are a child of the Most High God and have put your trust in Jesus Christ you have nothing to fear. The Lord will take care of you.
Wicked men with evil plans want to manipulate you with fear. They are fear-mongers. But, as the Bible says, “Perfect love casts out fear.”
By the way, I’m referring to the illuminati types — for they are truly wicked. Paul Craig Roberts is courageous and brilliant and I am very much in agreement with most of what he has to say. As far as the others you mention, like Gerald Celente, less so — but still basically agree with them.
I use the brain the God gave me, in fact I’m a teacher and an author. But even more important than consulting the opinions of the “experts” I listen to what the Lord has to say. After all, He is the most reliable source of information — and it’s his “opinion” that counts the most!
The “writing on the wall” is in the book of revelation and in the prophecies and visions of Daniel and others in the Bible. Our (your and my) future are in the Lord’s hands because He not only is in the “now” he also inhabits the future (which to him is just like the “now” to us). I believe what He says — and not Lindsay Williams his “elite” friends — and especially not Jonathan (“con job”) Cahn. My advice is walk in wisdom. Look to the Lord, get your direction from him and don’t walk in fear. Don’t believe what you hear or read if it’s unprovable. Be blessed.

All of these countries except Sweden are soooo seismic and will see earthquakes, volcano, radioactive ocean and tsunamis near term. Sweden will be in the middle of WW III as Russia will bulldoze right through there to hit NATO in Norway. Truth is, there is no good place to run to. Stay and fight to restore the Republic is probably the best option and of course, as always, do lots of praying.

I grant you that running to some other country might sound nice. A few minor issues. 1. language – you gotta speak what the people there speak; 2. the money and resources to pick up your life and do so – that is, move lock, stock and barrel not only your possessions; but, your source of income as well; 3. if the S does HTF, what on earth makes you think that any country on earth will actually welcome an American? Especially if this country is seen to have caused the problems you’re running from in the first place.

And 4. – I can only assume you’re a coward. Surely not an American at all. Just a person who dodges the problem, never faces up to his or her role in the creation of it. That you think that being a citizen of a country doesn’t have the duty implied to stand and defend it. To even go so far as laying down your own life to protect it. A tiny thing called patriotism. Heck, maybe even thought of as being a man or woman of integrity, loyalty, dignity. But no – you’d rather run like a whipped dog. Let the fantasy of being somehow immune to the strife that is a part of life – that others must do the dirty work. Pay the price of freedom. Well…….. you should run. Far and hide like the rabbit you must be

When the Soviet Union collapsed, I hoped that all the Northern Countries, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland, would near each other to create the Northern Union with a common economy and resources as a counterweight to the European Union. Such a union had not been too powerful to threaten Russia and make it nervous but powerful enough to be able to defend itself. Of course, it was a wishful thinking. The thoughts of this kind of an unknown private thinker mean nothing in this world. The politicians wanted the EU with the brilliantly painted advantages that it offered. Still in the present geopolitical circumstances, the Northern Union should be taken in consideration in the North and the NATO should be abandoned.

Norway joined the NATO after the WW2 when the NATO was established, but not the EU. Are the Norwegians brave and independent? I don’t think so. They only calculated that the NATO, meaning the US, would guarantee their safety against the Soviet Union/ Russia and later, they did not want to share their oil money with the poor countries of the EU. Now, they are a delicious bait for the whole military might of Russia, and the weakening US cannot guarantee their geopolitical safety in all circumstances, while Russia is equipping fast itself and is subjugating the entire Arctic under its sole as it looks. Such a bait is Iceland also in the middle of the North Atlantic. What a wonderful strategic place! The American base may change the owner.

Historically, Sweden has resorted to Finland as its buffer zone against the SU/ Russia, staying on the background and watching. That way it did last time in the WW2 but sold steel to Hitler all the time, the steel that the war machinery of Germany desperately needed. That was not a neutral position, rather a bribery for keeping Hitler out. Now, a new fear has risen in Sweden also due to the belligerence of Russia, and they are drooling over the NATO like Finland in these days. However without the US, the NATO cannot guarantee the safety of the Northern Countries. The US may collapse suddenly economically under its debt that is greater than the money of the entire world, or one day, a civil war may start there with other hard troubles of their own, and the European part of the NATO would abandon the Northern Countries except maybe Denmark that has been a member from the beginning of the NATO.

It’s better for an individual to resort to God in a threatening and hard situation and then, to follow God’s leading that really can be attained. That way I have done from my childhood on and survived in many hard conditions. I am living in Finland at the Polar circle in the neighborhood of a Russian owned motel at a strategic road route from the western border of Russia to the eastern border of Sweden. I have figured out that one morning I and my family, may be waked up by a thunder like rumble of a long Russian tank column speeding towards Sweden. It would mean the start of the WW3.

    • CosmicKiwiPerth

Looks like the writer of this article totally forgot about New Zealand. Ok they have some good quakes once in a while but after a big one you usually don`t get another like it in 115 years in that same area. Tassie; Ok go have a Southern Hemisphere Autumn & winter there. Sure it`s not as cold a winter like the Northern hemispheres. But make sure you are retired as work is hard to find there. Houses are almost the cheapest in Australia there.

    • DRJerkins

Wow, this guy is an idiot. None of these countries allow the personal ownership of firearms, so self defense is out of the question. Malaysia is a muslim majority nation; good luck surviving there among followers to the religion of pieces (unless you are a muslim yourself, and then you’ll have to be the right kind in order to keep your head). Sweden is being overrun by muslims; just look at the news; perfect place to go if you want your wife and daughters to be raped. Costa Rica and Chile are both run by the drug cartels.
So, out of this list, Tasmania is the only vague possibility, and then only if the right to life is not important to you.

Sorry folks, if you want a good place to live, you are going to have to stay in America and fight for it.

      • Fappy Smurf

Personal ownership of a gun illegal in Australia? You might just want to check your facts on that.
Do a Google search on ‘Firearm Licence Tasmania’ and you’ll see – as anywhere in Australia, that you are infact allowed to own a gun if you have a legitimate reason to do so (self-defense is NOT a legitimate reason), pass relevant background checks and safety courses in addition to being deemed mentally compitent to own a firearm. Fully-auto and large mag semi-auto’s are banned, as they have little purpose other than cheap thrills or to kill people.

In fact a quick Google search will tell you that ALL of the listed counties allow some form of gun ownership – they just have more tighter gun laws compared to USA. Maybe you should rephrase what you said to “…none of these countries APPEAR to allow me to CARRY IN PUBLIC.” – As it does appear to be the case.

Every time I see someone make this kind of “guess” comment, the remainder of their point or narrative becomes moot – especially if it contains an insult to another’s intellectual assesment of their own observation.
Furthermore, why do you so desire the power to be able to despatch another person at your discretion, as the prime reason to your choice of where to live? Although I admire your willingness to fight for your country, I think that you sir (apart from appearing obstinate and bigoted), are not only incorrect in your statement – but you’re also an idiot.

The only conceled carry I need, is a condom. Given statistics, I’m more likely to die from an STD than some thug on the street.

Portugal might not be a bad choice. It is not a major strategic target. It was neutral during WW2. It is the furthest from an assault from the East, having many countries as buffer to thin-out invading troops. It is Catholic, and also protected by the Virgin Mary who appear in Fatima.

Portugal is currently business friendly. Once here, with the purchase of an apartment or of a moderate investment, an equivalent of a US Green-Card may be obtained, which will allow its holder to move and work freely in the entire EU.
