The US Government is today preparing how to tackle a predicted tsunami strike following an magnitude-9 earthquake that it fears will be the country’s biggest ever natural disaster.
The White House Earthquake Resilience Summit will be streamed live on the internet iat 5.30pm.
Emergency response officials are preparing how to deal with a magnitude-9 undersea earthquake which they expect will be triggered by the Cascadia fault line.
Experts have know there is a very real threat of the quake, but have only now begun planning the response in earnest.
The White House said a new commitment to develop an earthquake early-warning system for the US will be announced at today’s summit.
The fault line lies in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, which is seventy miles off America’s Pacific Northwest and stretches all the way from Vancouver Island to Northern California.
It is a seismic activity hotspot area where a massive quake has historically happened on average every 240 years.
It could be one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit the US
But scientists, who warn that more needs to be done to prepare for the impending disaster, say the last one was 315 years ago -so it is 75 years overdue.
The problem lies with the subduction zone where it meets the Oceanic Plate and is slowly forced beneath the North American plate.
Chris Goldfinger, Oregon State earthquake geologist said: “It buckles upward and it gets pushed backward like a spring until eventually, after a few hundred years, it just has to let go.”
Researchers from the University of Washington have helped create a system which will be used across the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN).
It could be live this year.
PNSN has released a video showing how the ShakeAlert system could provide 28 seconds’ warning of a magnitude-8 quake off the coast of Oregon.
It would take around a further 15 minutes from then for the wave to reach the shore.
John Vidale, of the UW Seismo Lab, will explain how the early warning system works today.

The alert will be able to get to people who have signed up’s mobile phone in one second.
Early-warning systems look out for milder P-waves, which travel more quickly through the earth than the stronger tsunami causers.
The seconds of advance notice gives emergency responders time to turn off gas supplies to limit explosion risks, stop lifts, slow trains and protect other infrastructure.
It is estimated it will cost around £25million to set up and £10million a year to cover the west coast.
There is no reason to believe the earthquake is imminent, but scientists accept it could come at any time and is long overdue based on historical activity.

This has been predicted for how long? Just a repeat or previous earthquake predictions.
I smell a false flag. There may be an overdue earthquake there and I am willing to wager a bet that they are using their earthquake/tsunami machine to give those plates a little nudge along. I hope my friends in California will survive.
It is not overdue these are AVERAGES the fault has gone as long as 1000 years between giant quakes. So yeah one could happen now or in 100-700 years from now. the southern half of the fault breaks more often than the whole fault which would be a quake in the mid to high 8′s with a much smaller tsunami. Still bad but the chit chat about the scenario is just out of hand, it is just as likely the next giant quake in the United States will be a New Madrid quake. Or a Puerto Rico trench quake that sends a tsunami onto the gulf and east coasts. Most likely of all though is probably another big quake in Alaska. If you live in a quake prone area you take appropriate precautions just like living in a hurricane or tornado zone and of course the government should be preparing for all potential disasters, but no matter how much they blather on about them they are always unprepared and handle anything that happens badly.
Seems common sense goes out the window anymore . Why would someone want to stay in a place that you have been told that the fault is locked up . That means at anytime it could break loose . Pack your bags and leave ! If and when this happens people will blame any and everyone for their stupidity . What can the government do ? We are broke so we can’t pay to move everyone inland ? It’s like a curse everyone wants that dirt on the west coast . I realize that poor people are kind of stuck unless they start walking now . What they are going to need to survive this one is something very strong made into a bubble for escape like a sub . Going to get beat around a bit unless it is secure and then realeased after the great wave . But then debree could be thrown onto it so release is not possible . Just thinking out loud ! Get the hell out of dodge ! You live in the ring of fire . That also means volcanos may even go off . If you plan on staying you had better have everything in order with GOD . Because what they are saying also plays in hand with the bible . It shall come suddenly ! At a time when not expected . What is a 15 minute warning when you have to drive inland at least 50 miles ? You would have to drive at least 200 mph to out run the wave coming . Hope you got a Dodge hellcat or something the like . The roads may also have been effected with large sink holes or valleys . Not telling anyone what to do , but pack your bags and move inland . Other states have jobs . Your life and families lives are not worth staying . When they said the fault is locked up , that was the time to leave . Because at anytime it may go .
Common sense has left the room . Pack your bags and head inland . What the hell is a job with missing family members or hurt or disabled from the wave slamming you around . That is if you live through it . The government is broke they can’t move everyone inland . Besides this is right up the NWO , Georgia Guide Stones alley . You live in the ring of fire , that could also set off volcanos . Leave that GOD forsaken place ! When they let the satanist church set up residence there they were sunk anyway . The faults they say is locked up . That means at anytime the great one could happen . You would have to drive inland at 200 mph to out run the wave coming in 15 minutes after the quake in order to make it inland 50 miles to be safe . Your life is not worth that job or property . But if you decide to stay , you better have your affairs in order with GOD . Because if you plan on getting your family together and out running the wave , you still may have road blocks , sink holes and cracks or masive trenches in the road systems from the earthquake . Others will have the same idea and there will be jams and wrecks everywhere . Get out now ! It’s not worth your life !
