Gas powered devices are ENGINES. Motors by definition are electric.

BTW~ Nikola Tesla invented the worlds first electric car. It had a strand of wire 1 mile long wrapped around a wooden pole and connected the wiring from the pole underneath the car to the electric motor and the magnetism of the earth created the power to run the car and it ran and also disappeared shortly after it was a success! Hmmmm, I wonder where it went?

Recipe for disaster if it has no furling tail. This design has no over-speed protection.
Quite a few people have used Fisher & Paykel washing machine motors for the motors in wind turbines. They are made in New Zealand & probably now also in Australia too. Google the results etc.
Europe also. The motors are 220 volt 50 hertz.
Treadmill motors are DC power. I have one with a 5 blade 52″ aluminum fan. Here’s the catch, It said the blades that I purchased will spin at 9 miles per hour and needs to be mounted 60′ in the air,,,Thats right 60′. Well, I have it temporarily mounted on my back deck which is 9′ feet off of the ground facing North. On windy days it will spin but not fast. I went out there with a meter and spun it as fast as I could by hand and it produced a whopping 1 volt DC until it slowed down. I dont have a 60′ ladder either and wouldnt climb one if I did! Go Solar!
Now, while I admit my first thought when I read “any motor” was the briggs and stratton attached to my dredge outside. However, on a more relavant note. It says “Any Motor” and then it goes on to use a DC motor with no mention of the steps required to convert an AC motor to DC generator.
So really the title should be “How to attach fins to a DC motor and use it as a wind generator” or somthing along those lines.
For thoes who really care, squirell cage type fans are much more efficient. More efficient still are vortex patterned blades. Do it right and it will self amplify the air currents which should significantly increase output power.
But what do I know, I’m just some dumb redneck.
