A Roof Repair Plus an Extension

The following is a post from homesteaders who successfully completed a building and roofing project on their property. If you have the skills, this is a great project to undertake. For those who lack the skills for a roofing project, it is best to hire professionals, like these roofing contractors in Kansas City when attempting to repair your roof.

Another update on the homestead building projects.

As some of you may remember on a previous post I explained how I came about falling a tree on my new indoor/outhouse a couple years ago.

My how time fly’s when your having fun.

Now I didn’t repair the damage right away for two reasons, #1 the metal roof was a little crinkled but it did not leak and #2 why do something today that you can put off until later. Well I could not put it off any longer because I wanted to extend the roof line to match the existing one and extend the overhang on the north side.

Now the slant of the roof is about 6 feet in a 16 foot length of roof and I needed a way to tear the old sheeting down and put the new up. So you can see in the middle picture how I cobbled together a means to use an old ladder to make it work. (Kids, don’t try this at home).

Another small miracle was cutting the oval hole for the vent. Somehow it worked considering the sheets were 16 feet long and I’m trying to balance myself on a ladder on a steep roof. I also needed a wall so when the snow falls of the roof it does not pile up in the area I just put a roof over. I also needed some light in that same area.

Me being a collector of used stuff/ AKA Pack-rat, I had a couple of double pained sliding tempered glass sliders. I took one and removed the handle, turned it side ways and made a wall/window. I just have to scrape the reflective film off of it to get more light through.

Next comes the front with a small door to finish it up. Well my friends, onward and upward We go on this amazing journey of homesteading. The weather has been great with the highs in the middle 50′s and the lows around 27 F. If this holds I will be able to start the shed I plan to build on the lower level off my equipment trailer.

Hugs and blessings and may God keep you safe. Bob & Carol
