Going for a Fishing Trip? Here’s How You Prepare for It

What’s the most peaceful and satisfying yet fun outdoor activity than fishing?

I can bet it’s Fishing.

Fishing doesn’t have an age limit, and you don’t have to be a pro at it and it doesn’t require much physical strength either; a great hobby to have. Every now and then, when you feel like chilling and relaxing, Go! catch some fish.

But, Wait! You aren’t going fishing like that. Do you? I mean you have to at least prepare for it.

Even though it’s a relaxed sport doesn’t mean you are going to go bare handed, without direction. And if you are looking for how to prepare for a fishing trip, what are we here for?

So, first of all, read this with patience; that’s the very first thing you need for fishing. Patience.

Anyways, jokes aside, let’s get going.

1) Fishing Spot

You might have already chosen a fishing spot; a lake where you used to go fishing with your family member or friend, a pond maybe. If you haven’t, check out the geography of your location; Nearest pond, lake, river, etc.

But just a source of water isn’t enough. Make sure:

  • there are fish,
  • it’s not polluted,
  • and it’s not crowded.

We don’t want too much distraction and noise there. Do we? It should be peaceful; if you like that.

When you choose a place, look how far it is from your place and how much time it is going to take to get you there, what are the transportation options, or if you are going to drive there. This is because you have figured out time. Talking of time.

2) Time, Date and Weather

Once you figure out a place, next thing you have to pick the date.

Now, you’ll be like: why do I have to pick a date? I can go anytime, maybe right now.

That’s not a bad idea. But, what if it’s raining there? Or is it too hot today? That’s why planning is important beforehand. Even if you want to go right now. First, check the weather of the fishing place and then plan everything out. If you plan to go some other day, choose a date when the weather is perfect; Not too sunny, not too cloudy, not too hot, and not too cold. And rain is a big no-no. But, don’t forget you can’t control the weather.

Apart from that, time, after all, you have to reach there at the time and get back home on time; if you are not staying there.

If you’re gonna stay there, researching for a lodge you can stay at or camping isn’t a bad idea either.

3) Pack Your Fishing Gear

Neither are we bears nor herons. We can’t catch fish with bare hands unless you’re trained for that somehow. So, invest in fishing tools and necessities like rods, baits, reels, tackles, lines, hooks, backpack, waterproof cover, etc. There are many necessary items that you need for a better fishing experience. And always carry extra tools; easily breakable ones. Check out Globalmarinerenewable for more knowledge on fishing and gear. They have a lot of articles reviewing different fishing tools. It’ll help you to get the right one.

Clothing is also crucial for a good fishing experience. So, wear clothes accordingly; hot, cold. Some fishermen also invest in fishing clothing, which is lightweight and so.

And yes! You might need a license for fishing. Therefore, check if the fishing place you are going to requires a license or not. If they do, you better get one. And if you already have one, pack that as well.

4) What Kind of Fish?

We know there are different kinds of fish and they live in different environments/habitats/places. So, if you want to catch a particular fish; you might have to search for their location (just for research, you know). Big fish, small fish, tuna, salmon, mahi-mahi, swordfish, there are plenty of fish, but in different locations.

As a beginner, start with small ones. But, we don’t know if you are already a master.

5) Survival Gear

That was about fishing. What about your survival? You need food, the right clothes, a place to stay; if you’re staying there.

Clothing:

We have already talked about it. To say more, Even if it’s not cold there, at night it gets cold as it is near a water source. So, do carry warm clothes. Also, a raincoat if it rains.

Stay:

Another crucial point that we discussed shortly before is where you are going to stay. If it’s a local trip, you’ll probably get back home on the same day. And if it’s not, you should figure out a place to stay; a lodge, a camp, or elsewhere.

Camping sounds like a great idea for a fishing trip, to be honest. And if you are thinking the same; get your camping gear as well. Research about camping more for safety measures and survival guides.

Are you going overseas? Well, remember your password and visa then.

Food:

Fishing is a long process. Sometimes you stay there for hours and hours and still don’t get anything. Hence, pack your meals. Don’t just rely on the fish you are going to catch. Food like dehydrated food, nuts, dried fruits, instant noodles, instant coffee, water, beef jerky, sandwiches, energy bars, etc is great options for fishing/camping food.

Emergencies and Basics:

It’ll be a long day and too in the sun, so bring your sunscreen too. Do carry a first-aid at all costs. If you get into a situation you’ll need it. Aside from that pack your medication; if you have allergies or any health condition.

That’s all you need to know for now. Once you reach there you’ll figure out everything. Have fun and enjoy your trip.
