Please don’t confuse today’s weed with landrace strains. The weed we were smoking in the early to mid 70′s were not grown in the states. The buds were sticky and fully formed. Yes, there were seeds. The weed I smoked then was from Columbia and Mexico, not some lab farm in Mendocino. All the weed then was grown outdoors.
The potency then was MUCH higher than today. Then, my friends and I could share a joint in the morning and still be high at dinnertime. All through the day, after eating lunch, the buzz did not decrease. Today, I live in a recreational legal state and I have tried many different varieties and strains, some with THC levels approaching 30%.
So, why is it that after an hour or two, the intense buzz I had at first was gone, necessitating a second go round? No, the imported weed we had in the 70′s had much higher compounds that make you high than the weed today. I have seen that good, pure strains from South and Central America don’t cross the border anymore. Only cheap, mishandled cartel weed comes across now, a total waste. The cartels know this, and now they grow their weed in California National Parks. Still, the most inferior weed on the black market as far as I know.
Don’t be spreading misinformation on weed from the 70′s, saying it was inferior to today’s weed unless you include a disclaimer that the appearance and buzz of the weed back then was the homegrown weed that was grown within the US borders, not the great landrace strains from…
Columbia and Mexico. Nobody I knew back then tried to grow their own weed knowing it would be poor quality.
Certainly, your experience was different, but it’s well documented that THC content on common strains were in the 4 percent range in the 70s. Maybe I’m just old and don’t tolerate things like I did, but today’s marijuana seems awfully strong.
