Ember Tieks: A New Drop in the Dragon Collection

Fantasy fans – interested in immersing themselves in other realms and realities – got another reason to celebrate this fall when Tieks dropped a new release from the beloved Dragon shoe collection. The fiery style – Ember – received rave reviews and proved itself worthy of continuing the epic House Gavrieli saga, born almost three years ago!

Back in 2019, the Tieks Dragon collection launched with a shoe style called Drago. As the story goes, many centuries back, House Gavrieli conquered the land of the dragons and the magical creatures slowly disappeared. To honor their memory, House Gavrieli forged a jewel-encrusted dragon. To their surprise, they magically discovered one surviving egg, thought to be the last in existence. For a thousand years, House Gavrieli watched and protected this egg, nurturing it on a perpetual flame. One day, the egg cracked, and the Drago shoe emerged – a rich black color embellished with foiled-silver scales gleaming with hints of glacial blue, perfectly complementing the shoes’ signature teal soles. (To achieve that dragon style, Tieks manufacturers dyed and coated specially treated Italian leather, creating the impression of smooth, foiled scales.) But, as fabulous as the shoe was, the release process was even more enticing.

Over the course of April Fool’s Day 2019, Tieks trickled out information about how House Gavrieli discovered, treasured, protected, and hatched the egg, enticing fans by unlocking the story in small, intriguing episodes before finally revealing the Drago shoe. This year, the excitement returned when a mysterious chest appeared on the Tieks website. Over the hours that followed, Tieks fans watched the site with bated breath as the chest opened to reveal a dragon egg and the story of Ember – a prequel to the legend of Drago.

This new Tieks Dragon style was a sight to behold, made of specially treated Italian leather, dyed, and coated with smooth foiled scales in a dark brown color with copper markings. Tieks anticipated an enthusiastic welcome for this design, as a similar pair donated to and sold at an auction supporting victims of the war in Ukraine had a winning bid of $6000. As the story of Ember’s discovery and birth slowly unlocked on the Tieks website, it was not surprising that fans returned to the House Gavrieli realm for regular updates. Yet, once the newest Dragon emerged from its shell, customer response was overwhelming. In fact, the style sold out within three days of the initial hatching.

Fast-acting Tieks fans received their Ember ballet flats in Tiek’s signature box, featuring a jewel-encrusted dragon relic in the same stunning color palette that characterizes the Ember design. And they also enjoyed the Dragon style’s unique construction. Because, unlike other snake-print or scale-patterned Tieks, the Drago and Ember shoes are made from that specially treated top-grain leather. As a result, their finish resembles that of a dragon’s scale, but feels incredibly comfortable, even on the first wear. Tieks continues to level up the ballet flat game without sacrificing the unique features that make Tieks game changers in this category: a non-elasticized, cushioned back that prevents rubbing and blisters; non-skid rubber soles for easy walking; and a cushioned insole for maximum comfort.
