Tributes have been paid to US astronaut Neil Armstrong,  who has died aged 82.

He had heart-bypass surgery earlier this month to relieve  blocked coronary arteries.

As commander of the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969, he  became the first human to set foot on the moon.

Astronomer Sir Patrick Moore said: “As the first man on  the  moon, he broke all records.

“I knew him well. He was a man who had all the courage in the world.”

Jamie Burgess, from the National Space Centre, told Sky News: “It’s extremely sad news. It’s a terrible shock to the science community.”

He added: “He will be sorely missed.”

He radioed back to Earth the historic news of “one giant leap for mankind” and spent nearly three hours walking on the moon with Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin.

He and his wife Carol married in 1999 and made their home in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill, but he has largely stayed out of public view in recent years.

He spoke at Ohio State University in February at an event honouring fellow astronaut John Glenn and the 50th anniversary of Mr Glenn becoming the first American to orbit the Earth.

Sure would have been nice to reveal “one of truth’s little secrets” before he left. How courageous he would be remembered if he had!

I was completely unaware that he was still alive. Unlike Buzz Aldrin who pimps himself out to the media, Neil Armstrong was nowhere to be seen.

To bad to see an American hero gone, He set new records and seen what few have seen, I am glad he was born in America and we have such men. I do wonder about all the things he was not able to pass on to us, those the government deemed unacceptable for us to know. I believe he had a lot of information and experiences he could not tell of. Some day I hope we the public can know the truth unpolluted by government propaganda and lies as is so popular of Obummer and his crowd and anti Americans working to destroy this great nation, On this note contact your Representative’s in Government and demand we dissolve our connection and membership with the UN and NATO we have since there creation carried the majority of the bill of these organizations in money and Men, the iron wall has fallen we need these resources at home, we are not the world police and we do not need there expensive wars we are paying for. We do not need there foreign troops in our land, we do not need some 3ed wold ass telling us what food we are gong to eat or what car we are gong to drive, or what weapons we are going to own, so we need to fire Hillary and unjoin the the UN and NATO! Get foreign troops our of our land,
