At this time it is still unknown exactly what object was spotted moving toward earth for the past several weeks as the provided images from NASA Stereo Telescopes are only 2 dimensional in nature.
The object which was referenced in a previous article entitled Breaking: Massive New Object Moving Toward Earth Now? – Jupiter Struck in September could potentially be the comet C/2012 V4 which can be viewed on NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s official website.
JPL specifications are as follows:
According to SunsFlare, “I am not very worried about this at all… it is about 1.7 solar distances from earth at this point… while it will be interesting to watch, it’s nothing to be worried about what so ever.”
Although SunsFlare admits another object 2012 DA14 is of interest approaching earth around February 15, 2013 when it will only be about 18,591 miles from earth. A very close pass as the moon is only 238,000 away from earth on average.
2012 DA14 specifications are as follows;
“This is more on my radar now than anything”, said SunsFlare
A giant asteroid is set to buzz Earth next week, and astronomers are already keeping their eyes on the skies—but not because 4179 Toutatis poses any danger. Then there is the asteroid 4179 Toutatis that passes this week. Rachel Kaufman reports,
Toutatis, at 2.7 miles (4.46 kilometers) long and 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) wide, is one of the largest asteroids that comes anywhere near Earth. But only an astronomer would consider its closest approach to be “near. When the peanut-shaped rock is at its closest to the Earth on December 12, it’ll be more than 4.3 million miles (6.9 million kilometers) away, or more than 18 times the distance from the Earth to the moon.
Although this one remains a safe distance, it is massive.
