Comet ISON Growing in Size - Nearly Doubled in 10 Days!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Ten days ago on October 15, 2013, I posted an image here on BIN that I took showing Comet ISON and how it looked at the time.  Today, October 25, 2013, I want to show how Comet ISON has grown in size and brightness.  Please note that all the equipment used to take the images and the image size are all the same.

Check it out:

The only difference was the moon was pretty bright this morning when I took the images, so the background is not as dark.  Also, I managed to take four more sub-images than last time, which isn’t much by imaging standards.  In a week or so, the moon will be gone from the sky and Comet ISON should be even bigger, better and much brighter!

I did not expect it to be as good as it was this morning, to tell the truth.  However, I am still not able to see it in binoculars in the light polluted skies I have, but I think that will change by the time the moon is out of the way, if things keep going the way they are.

So, for all those interested in seeing Comet ISON for yourself, get ready!   It looks like it will put on a show for all amateur astronomers, whether you’re an expert or a novice.  The general public might not be too impressed at this point, but maybe when it gets closer to perihelion, they will take notice.

Clear skies!

Put on a show….in the plaza and remove the mask :?:

I’ve unmasked it and it turns out is is just a regular comet, albeit a sun-grazer that may or may not survive perihelion passage. I have a hunch that it will survive and be even more dazzling than it already is.

I like how youve been constnatly tossing out the mainstream NASA releases on what they say will happen to it. but yet youre hanging on an alternative website. Seriously take the blinders off. you think you sound smart but then you go and repeat stuff that NASA says and it all goes out the window

        • HfjNUlYZ

Dude, I’m shooting these myself and I can plainly see what is going on. I don’t need NASA to tell me diddly squat and there are no blinders on my eyes.

I have 30 years of experience observing and photographing comets. Everything the doom-n-gloomer’s here on BIN have been saying about ISON has proven to be wrong. Heck, everything they’ve said about other comets I’ve photographed over the years has proven to be wrong, too. This is not my first rodeo, pardner.

I call BS when I see it and only speak the truth of what I observe myself. Maybe it is you who should take your own advice?

Brilliant! Thanks for your photos. I really look forward to your posts when the Moon no longer dims the comets observation.

Chituali, thanks for the kind words.

You are most welcome and I look forward to taking lots more images of ISON and document its journey around the Sun. I have a high degree of confidence that the best is yet to come.

Hmmm… the photos look exactly the same size to me…

      • HfjNUlYZ

Better check your glasses, then. lol

    • HfjNUlYZ

Maybe it didn’t grow in size, but just came… closer? Doh lol. :P

      • HfjNUlYZ

No, that is not entirely correct. Sure, it is getting closer and that’s one reason why the apparent size is increasing. But, it is also getting closer to the Sun and that will make the coma bigger and the tail longer as it heats up and more volatiles are vaporized .

        Better luck next time.
