Will Sun Sling Comet ISON Toward Earth???
As Comet ISON continues to hurdle towards our Sun, many people are speculating what will happen to ISON’s orbital path as it slingshots around the Sun. What makes ISON so unique is that it is what is called a “sungrazer” in that it will actually go through the corona of the Sun.
This “sungraze” will happen on November 28th and will be watched with great fascination by astronomers around the world. There are a few proposed scenarios being debated to predict what the incredible heat and gravitational force of the Sun will have on ISONs orbit.
- Will the gravity of the sun pull one side of the comet’s nucleus more strongly than the other stretching it apart causing it to explode???
- Will the Sun cause the ice and gasses to melt off and fizzle off ending the comets life???
- Will the Sun cause the comet to change its orbital path and head towards Earth for cataclysmic event that many of the dooms day believers fear???

Dave, I think you are right. And, I venture to say that the next doomsday comet they will pick will be Siding Spring (C/2013 A1) since it is predicted to sideswipe Mars on October 19, 2014. The doom-n-gloomers will claim that it will hit Mars and the resulting meteor shower will hit Earth and we’ll all be destroyed as a result. Yeah, right. lol
