The fact that these massive asteroids are only being discovered within hours of near-Earth collision is getting very disturbing.
Just a few hours ago, the Minor Planet Center announced the discovery of a 30-meters large near-Earth asteroid, 2014 DH6. Then just a few hours later, it’s reported that due to its orbit, this rock was going to have a very close encounter with the Earth on 23 Feb. Ummm… that’s TODAY.
Near-Earth asteroid 2014 DH6:will pass within .0052 AU of earth and, .0037 AU of our moon today. We have been lucky so far but finding these at the last minute is getting concerning.

.0052 AU is around 480k miles or 778 kilometers. Not very close, not very threatening, but worth keeping an eye on.

But it is happening more frequently as is only natural in this part of space.
