Visual astronomy. Rheita and Metius craters.

The first thing that catches your attention un these video captures is Vallis Rheita a ” moat ” that spans a distance of 445 Km long, and at this Moon phase is beautifully highlighted . This is interrupted in the middle by a “bridge ” to the crater Young (42 km).

At the extreme north, a crater is superimposed over Vallis Rheita, named Rheita (70 km). Notice its fine floor, although half of it is in shade. When we would approached to the crater, we would see some small craters on it , especially on the inside of the crater. One thing is certain , namely that it has a central peak but no other ” rille ” that would make it more special.

Metius crater ( 88 km ) is larger, and has the same characteristics as Rheita, although peaks in the center can not be distinguished any. Inside the crater is observed a smaller crater called Metius B ( 14 km ) in the north- east.
