What are Those Colorful, Crazy Clouds in the Sky??

My Twitter feed exploded on June 25 with reports of colorful, crazy-looking clouds, sundogs, Sun halos and more. The above image from Nathanial Burton-Bradford is just an example of the type of atmospheric effect called a circumhorizontal arc. These are sometimes referred to as “fire rainbows” but of course are not rainbows at all, and have nothing to do with fire.
This is an optical phenomenon from sunlight hitting ice crystals in high cirrus clouds. It is actually a rather rare occurance, but it it happens most often during the daytime in summer when the Sun is high in the sky. This creates a rainbow-type effect directly in the clouds.

This is total BS, those nicely colored ” clouds” are not natural, they are created with chemicals … Or didnt you notice there is no full spectrum “rainbows” they are only a few colors, green, blue, and red
So to claim that they don’t happen often, simply shows you….you don’t know what you are saying…as they happen every single time, ” con-trails ” appear …I wear polarized glasses, and I see them all the time, if you don’t believe that, simply get a pair and look for yourself…. Unless of course you do not believe you’re eyeballs….
So if you have an issue with what I am saying, then simply find out what metals burn in that color range, you will be amazed.
Or if you are a lazy person who can not look for evidence for proof, just remember the next time you see colored fire products in the camping section of you’re favorite corporate monster and look at the ingrediance for the color flame….again it will amaze you

Agreed! I saw some this evening on the coast of Maine. I am in my 50′s and I can tell you these clouds NEVER EXISTED pre-1991. Hope not too many people believe this story…
