By using its new dynamic lighting technology, GPU manufacturer NVIDIA has graphically recreated the Apollo 11 moon landing site — and the results are crushing a number of wild claims made by conspiracy theorists.


What they’ve done is create a highly detailed model of the moon, the lander and the astronauts and used the sun as the only light source. Their newest video cards allow them to show light scattering in real time… to show that yes the pictures they got back from the moon are accurate!.

      Photographic film would be ruined by the radioactivity of the Moon’s surface, and by solar neutrons. The Skylab space station kept THEIR film in a lead-lined vault.

      The 70 mm film in the Apollo cameras cannot have background mountains and foreground space ships both in focus. The background is projected on a screen.

      The radiation belts around the Earth make people sick and interfere with vision, at the fringes. Passing through would be fatal, which is why we’ve never gone beyond low earth orbit — not in the 4 decades-plus SINCE Apollo, and not DURING the Apollo era.

      Beyond the radiation belts, beyond the protection of the Earth’s magnetic field, a solar flare would be fatal.

        What exactly do you think they did? Take a few pics and throw the casing to the ground? “Pick it up when we leave” sorta thing?

        The film was never “in the open” for very long, and was placed back in a cooler-like container when full.

        Besides the casings being metal themselves. Even plastics give some measure of protection from cosmic rays/radiation.

        Spacecraft are lined with plastics as an extra measure against radiation even in low earth orbit.

        Also, the mountains and crater walls in the distance are not in focus, They would be much more out of focus on earth, but without an atmosphere to scatter light, they are actually much closer to being in focus.

        As for radiation exposure times, length of time of exposure is critical… Did you read the NASA report on radiation effects of the Van Allen Belts? The ships went through the belts as fast as they could, so that exposure times to the heaviest radiation doses would be minimized. It turned out they only received the equivalent of a few x-rays at your local clinic.

          (1) This is a 2009 discovery:

          “”The moon is a source of radiation,” said Boston University researcher Harlan Spence, the lead scientist for LRO’s cosmic ray telescope. “This was a bit unexpected.””

          “Overall, future lunar travelers face a radiation dose 30 percent to 40 percent higher than originally expected, Spence said.”

          What Spence is referring to is the bombardment of the Moon’s surface by cosmic rays, which splits atoms. The split atoms emit gamma rays, neutrons, electrons, and alpha particles.

          Please tell me how we didn’t know the radiation exposure in 1969-1972.

          (2) NASA in 2013: “The Van Allen belts are affected by solar storms and space weather and can swell dramatically. When this occurs, they can pose dangers to communications and GPS satellites, as well as humans in space.”

          “When we turned REPT on just two days after launch, a powerful electron acceleration event was already in progress, and we clearly saw the new belt and new slot between it and the outer belt.”

          What they are talking about is the fact that the size, the shape, and the intensity of the radiation belts change. They depend on what the Sun has been doing in the last minutes, hours, and days.

          Please tell me how NASA could predict a safe level of exposure, on the way out and on the way back.

          (3) Here is a 2013 discovery about the intensity of beta radiation:

          “NASA’s twin Van Allen Probes have led to another new discovery of Earth’s mysterious radiation belts.

          Researchers used data from the NASA spacecraft to reveal that the high-energy particles populating the Van Allen radiation belts can be accelerated to nearly the speed of light. ”

          Please tell me how we didn’t know this in 1969-1972.

          Please tell me how NASA, or anybody, predicted radiation exposures, prior to learning this in 2013.

          (4) And please tell me why we have not even pretended to travel beyond low Earth orbit in 42 years.

          (5) The radiation belts are not X rays. They are much worse. They are high energy charged particles.

          (6) Back to the photographic film: There is nothing in the Apollo spacecraft that would shield it from solar neutrons, and from the neutrons emitted by the surface of the Moon.

          Being “in the open” in a camera for 2 hours, or being inside the aluminum-foil space ship, makes no difference at all.

          (7) The background pictures ARE in focus.

          Brightness and contrast are all wrong, however. If there is a white space suit or an aluminum foil space ship in the picture, the Moon should be black by comparison.
