All Things Must Pass

All Things Must Pass.
-A song and album by George Harrison

Back in 1970, George Harrison, one of the Beatles, released a major album called “All Things Must Pass” after years of being overshadowed by his Beatle band mates, John Lennon and Paul McCartney.  It is a very spiritual album influenced by Hinduism, George’s religion of choice.  The most famous song on the album was “My Sweet Lord”.  It has been my experience in life that all things truly do pass.  In the time I have been on this planet many people, places, and things have passed through and from my life.  The idea that all things pass is bittersweet.  Although many bad things pass, good things are also transitory.  Life is always in flux even though it’s movement is not always discernible in the moments of our lives.  We often feel like nothing ever changes and then we wake up and ten years has passed.  It is a comfort to know that the storms of our lives won’t last forever but the impermanence of life should also remind us to enjoy life when it is sweet.  Life is like the weather.  Some days are stormy and overcast.  Other days are sunny with blue skies and cool breezes.  Sometimes the weather slows us down and other days it energizes us.  We must also remember that we, too, will pass.  As we go through our lives we need to ask ourselves what impact are we having on the world around us.  Are we doing good and positive things with our lives that makes us a sunny day for others or are we a storm that others hope will quickly pass?

Very well said. You raise many topical points. We all have our own pet crusades and hobby horses, and in nearly every case we miss the point by inspecting lifes nits. Expressed as finger wagging, witch hunts and petty name calling to appoint blame on someone, something, anything.

But as you say, absolutely nothing lasts forever, not even the memory of myths lasts for that long. We are left slightly disempowered with apathy if we have no ambition other to get fat and drink bear all day watching repeats of old football games. Which is the direction people tend to drift when they’ve had the rug pulled from under them.

Spirituality to me, means finding your place, we each have our own, and nobody’s is any better or worse than anyone elses. We only have one gift to give, a future for our children and their children.

We really only have one enemy to that, profit. That is where we cant afford to eat and stay warm, because we are also having to pay for any number of parasites who give nothing back in return, aka share holders.

It’s up to everyone to make their minds up whose side they are on. And act appropriately.

There is a time and place for everything. Sometimes storms are bad, other times they are exactly what the doctor ordered, they blow away the dross.

There is no such thing as good or bad, black or white. Too much light will blind you just the same as too much dark. Physically too much light is excruciatingly painful and permanent. The pain being your eye nerve cells being burned out. On the other hand too much dark is extremely soothing and induces sleep. Is temporary, and only subject to the light being turned back on.

Balance is what we are after.
