The prodigal son parable, a pitiful Pharisee attempt to retain the kingdom "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine."

WRONG!

Here’s the 2 sons — doing the will of the Father is the criteria for future standing:

28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.
30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.
31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be TAKEN FROM YOU, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

The fake story (below) with its fatted calf also has its roots in the parable of the king’s marriage supper in Matt chapter 22…but destruction not eternal inheritance is the end.

27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.
28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:
30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
