Uni Days: Winding Stairs & Maze-like Passageways

Here is a photo I took of the staircase up to my seminar yesterday afternoon at Greenwich University, where I have just started an MA course. The stairs are behind the Painted Hall in the Old Royal Naval College – although the student entrance is at the other side of the building to the one tourists use.

The university buildings – which I posted exterior photos of last week – are beautiful, but finding one’s way around inside them is like navigating a maze. Yesterday I had to collect a course handbook from a bookcase in one of the buildings, but it took me quite some time to find where I needed to be, despite asking for directions.

On my way I met up with three 18-year-olds who were also new students looking for the same bookcase. We wandered around together. “It’s like Hogwarts,” one said. It is a bit, I had to agree.

Another asked if the building was haunted. I said it was. I’ll be blogging about the ghosts of Greenwich closer to Halloween, but I’ll just mention now that there is a talk on ghosts taking place at the Old Royal Naval College on 30th October.
