Pagan Eye: The West Wickham Oak
This is one of London’s oldest trees – the West Wickham Oak. Although it stands not too many miles from where I live in south east London, I have to admit I have never visited it. This picture was sent to me by Nathalie Andrews, who was passing through the area and looked for the tree.
Nathalie said: “The West Wickham Oak dates from the thirteenth century – 800 years ago. Now on private land but visible behind a fence. A small plaque tells you what it is, but I had to look it up to find its age. It is one of the most ancient trees in London.”
