Pagan Eye: My Messy Desk as I Write My Dissertation
Why am I showing you a picture of my very messy desk?
Well, this is the sight I’m facing most of the time right now. I’m in the final weeks of my MA course and have to finish writing my dissertation by the end of the month. The first draft is due this morning, as I have to send it to my tutor to discuss it later in the week.
As you might guess from looking at the titles of the books scattered around my laptop, one of the authors I’m writing about is Doris Lessing. She might be mostly thought of as a science fiction writer, but in fact many of her books were about London, and many included diverse aspects of spirituality. Lessing herself was a Sufi Muslim, but I’ve spotted both Buddhist and Taoist thought in some of her stories in London Observed, while The Four-Gated City includes a psychogeographical walk across London that ends in a kind of spiritual epiphany.
The other things you might see on my desk are two grubby place mats. Well, they usually hold mugs of tea and plates of snacks. I’ve been snacking much to much while I’m working – as I blogged about last week.
Anyway, I’m back to work on my dissertation now. If you have photos that are more interesting than my desk, and would like to see them shared on my blog, please send them to me to remind me there is life outside my study!
