Tarot: Four of Cups - Weariness or Mixed Pleasures

I drew a card for the world from the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot and it was the four of cups.

The picture shows someone sitting cross-legged and cross-armed with three cups on the ground in front of them and another offered by a seemingly magical hand. Yet they look down and take none of them. It’s as if the person is weary or unsatisfied with all the choices and opportunities available, even though they are varied and many. Perhaps they’re depressed or worn out and unable to find pleasure in what life offers?

Traditionally this card is sometimes seen as being a bit negative, as though it’s a bad thing to shut oneself off from opportunities, but that isn’t always the case. The world’s got hectic this year, with people making up for lost socialising time. There are so many events taking place that life could be one huge whirl of activity if we say yes to everything. But if that’s not what you want quite yet, that’s fine. Peace and quiet are good too, and it’s alright to say no if you want to.

Take your time and think things over if you need to. You don’t have to accept every opportunity offered to you. If you feel you need to protect yourself by staying put, then for the moment do that. Perhaps you need to look inwards and re-evaluate what’s important to you. Perhaps you need to feel the earth beneath you and sit under the shade of a tree outdoors rather than say yes to every invitation you get sent, or cup you get offered to sip from.
