Tennessee Titans: Kenny Britt's Potential Suspension May Prove to Be Good Thing for Titans

The Tennessee Titans could very well be heading into the regular season without their star receiver, Kenny Britt.
In three years with the Titans, the supremely talented, but oft-troubled receiver has appeared in all 16 games only once; his rookie year. Now the fourth-year veteran faces a possible suspension following his eighth run-in with the police.
“Kenny Britt said he’s a little worried about a suspension after meeting with (Commissioner) Goodell,” Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean said on Twitter.
If Goodell does follow through with a suspension, although detrimental to the team’s success, it could ultimately be a blessing in disguise.
The receiver was on pace for his best season as a pro, recording 17 receptions for 289 yards and three touchdowns in his first three games of 2011 before tearing his ACL and MCL against the Denver Broncos. Britt was placed on the physically unable to perform list after recovering from his third surgery within the previous 10 months as training camp opened.
The receiver had surgery on his right knee in September, with a follow-up surgery in May. He had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after the team’s minicamp in June as well.
With health a serious concern for Britt, the receiver shouldn’t risk returning too early, which would have undoubtedly happened if he were available once the regular season rolls around.
The receiver also faces going down the path of former Titan, Adam “Pacman” Jones. Multiple arrests and unwanted attention from the media does not sit well with owner Bud Adams, and although he loves the upside of Britt, the off-the-field concerns are starting to mount.
Britt’s looming suspension also opens up another spot in what is rounding out to be a proficient receiving core.
Nate Washington and Damian Williams should be expected to pick up right where they left off last season if Britt is unable to go Week 1. Kendall Wright should branch out to the third spot behind the duo.
With no Britt and the Titans leaning closer to a pass-first attack in 2012, Marc Mariani could finally receive his shot on the field with the offensive unit.
While the Titans would surely miss Britt’s production and forced respect for the passing game, considering the big picture, a suspension might be the best thing for the budding star.
