Jacksonville Jaguars Have Most Salary Cap Space of Any NFL Team, Wonder What Maurice Jones-Drew Thinks About That

All 32 NFL teams had to make their final roster cuts last Friday, and now the final 53 are set, for the most part.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen an official list of salary cap breakdowns, but the fine gentleman over at ProFootballTalk.com, a site that is the absolute best when it comes to this sort of thing, have come up with an unofficial list of salary cap figures for all 32 teams.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the league with $28.7 million in cap space, which is rather interesting, considering new team owner Shad Kahn just allowed star running back Maurice Jones-Drew to miss all of training camp and the preseason because of a contract squabble. As you may know, Jones-Drew led the league in rushing last season and has become the face of the franchise.

Another team worth noting is the Philadelphia Eagles. After an offseason in 2011 that made them the “Dream Team,” so said former No. 2 quarterback Vince Young, the Eagles have found themselves with quite a bit of money to spend, $20.2 million to be exact. There was obviously a lot creativity used to negotiate the contracts of Michael Vick and Nnamdi Asomugha.

The San Francisco 49ers came in at $3.5 million in cap space, but that shouldn’t be all that surprising considering defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was able to keep all of his starters from last year’s team.

One of the more interesting names on the list is the St. Louis Rams. Jeff Fisher‘s team has but $4.0 million to spend under the cap. That’s kind of surprising to see considering the Rams have fewer recognizable faces than the U.S. Men’s Badminton team. Ok, maybe not, but you get it. And let’s not forget that the Rams were one of the worst teams in the league last season and aren’t likely to be much better in Fisher’s first season. The team is a collection of B and C grade players, though luckily, many of them have contracts that expire at the end of the season.

Ok, enough is enough, you are free to go look at the numbers.

The figures are as of Sept. 3, 2012.

Jacksonville Jaguars: $28.7 million.

Kansas City Chiefs: $26.6 million.

Philadelphia Eagles: $20.2 million.

Tennessee Titans: $17.0 million.
