Adrian Peterson: Of Course I’d Love to Run Over Redskins Safety

Adrian Peterson makes his return to FedEx Field in our nation’s capital for the first time since he tore his ACL and MCL on December 26th last year. In the Vikings second to last game of the year against the Redskins, Minnesota came away with only its third victory of the season. It was a victory many Vikings fans found to be far too costly, since it put Minnesota out of the race for last place and the Andrew Luck sweepstakes in last year’s NFL draft. It was also costly because of the brutal knee injury star running back Adrian Peterson suffered.

Everyone thought the season ending knee injury was going to keep AP out for most of this season too. Well, everyone save Adrian Peterson. From day 1 he’s said he would be ready to go come opening day and he was right. Now he once again gets to face Redskins safety DeJon Gomes, who AP believes laid the low hit that tore his knee.

Speaking Thursday in the Vikings’ locker room, Peterson said he was “99.9 percent” sure that Gomes’ hit was the hit that injured him. After an impressively quick rehab of only 9 months, AP is ready to lay a few hits of his own on Gomes.

“Of course, of course,” Peterson said smiling. “I’ll make sure I have my shoulders low. He might be trying to go for the ankles. But I’m just going to go out and play ball, have fun.”

Christian Ponder sustained a concussion on a hit from London Fletcher in that same game against the Redskins. You can be sure that AP, Ponder and the rest of our Purple & Gold are prepared to exact revenge and bring home another victory at FedEx Field on Sunday.
