Malabo, Equatorial Guinea – The 8th edition of the Women’s Football Cup Africa (CAN) 2012 opening match was held at the New Malabo Stadium (Nuevo Estadio de Malabo) on Sunday. The First Lady, Constancia Mangue de Obiang, accompanied by the Second Vice President of the Republic, Nguema Obiang Mangue, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, along with other personalities, presided over the ceremony, representing the President of the Republic of H.E. New Malabo Stadium is the second largest stadium in Equatorial Guinea and is located at the foot of a lush tropical mountainside, with the sea only a couple of kilometers away. The Equatorial Guinea Girls won by one goal to nil against the difficult South African team in the opening match. The girls played with many difficulties because the field was in poor condition due to the heavy rainfall that took place before the game.
