Start’em Sit’em Week 7

Start’em Sit’em Week 7

For most of us week 7 marks the halfway point in this year’s fantasy football regular season, and it’s now time to step up our game. This week is a very big bye week in the NFL. With teams like Atlanta, Denver, and Philly on bye, some top-tier players will be out of action. With all that star power missing, you need to have the right players going. So hopefully some of the guys I’ve selected are on your rosters, and can score you some big points this week.

“The Don’t Over Think’em Starters”

QB – Jay Cutler

The Bears and Cutler come off the bye week to face the Lions on Monday Night. Cutler has done very well against the Lions since joining the Bears, winning five out of the last six meetings. Detroit is an average D against the pass, and with the big weapons Cutler has, he should still have a huge game. On Monday Night Cutler passes for at least 290 yards, and 2 TD’s.

RB – Trent Richardson

I really like Richardson  going against a very giving Colts run D. I know Richardson’s ribs are hurt, but he has been able to practice all week, so I believe he will be good to go. In what should be a very productive day for Trent, I see him going for close to 100 yards rushing, and scoring 1 TD.

WR – Vincent Jackson

I have been pleasantly surprised by the production Jackson has had in his first year in Tampa. I have always thought Jackson was a great receiver, but not always the most consistent. With Josh Freeman as his new QB I thought his numbers would suffer more than they have. Now I don’t know if that’s because Doug Martin has not been the player they thought, so they are throwing it more. What ever the case, Jackson has been pretty solid most weeks, and against a still-not-so-good Saints D, he grabs 5 to 6 balls for 80 to 90 yards, and 1 TD.

“The Great Match-Up Favorites”

QB – Eli Manning

Even with the year Eli had last season, he was drafted as a low-end starter or a back up in most leagues.  Even though his passing yards have been very inconsistent, Eli has thrown at least 1 TD in every game so far this year. Going against the Redskins, who have the worst passing D in the league, Eli and the Giants should have a big game. Eli lights up the Redskins for over 300 yards passing and at least 2 TD’s.

RB – Felix Jones

Felix Jones gets the start for at least one week, because of an injury to DeMarco Murray.  Even with Murray out of the lineup, I feel the Cowboys will attempt to run the ball more so they can control the clock, and keep Newton off the field.  Also, the Panthers are giving up over 125 yards a game rushing. With that said, Jones is a more than capable fill in, he rushes for at least 90 yards and scores at least 1 TD on Sunday.

WR – Hakeem Nicks

I know Victor Cruz will get his catches and score his points, but with more of the focus on him now, that leaves the door open for Nicks to have a big game. Nicks is as close to being completely healthy as he has been in a while.  In a return to his old form against a weak Redskins secondary, Nicks scores big, getting 5 to 6 catches, 90 to 100 yards receiving, and 1 TD.

“The Tempting Sleepers”

QB – Carson Palmer

With QB’s like Matt Ryan and Peyton Manning on bye this week, some of you may be in need of a QB just to get you through. Palmer should be that guy this week. He is at home facing a below average D in the Jaguars. For a nice bye week replacement, Palmer goes for 280 yards passing and 2 Td’s.

RB – CJ2K

Haven’t we been here before? The tempting thought of starting the once great Chris Johnson. For those of you that may still have Johnson on your roster, or possibly traded for him, this should be his week. Going against a very giving Bills run D, CJ2K returns to his old form, well at least for 1 week. Johnson goes for over 100 yards rushing and at least 1 TD.

WR – Brandon Gibson

With Danny Amendola injured, Gibson has become the go-to guy in St. Louis. This week the Rams will definitely have to score some points to keep up with the Packers. Also the St. Louis running game has been a disappointment, so they will most certainly be throwing the ball a lot. This week Gibson has a break-out game, and has 7 to 8 catches, 90 to 100 yards receiving, and 1 TD.

“Play At Your Own Peril”

QB - Matthew Stafford

Now I have been burned a few times picking QB’s that can light it up. This week on Monday night, that won’t be the case. The Chicago Bears Defense has been very good to say the least, and this week should be no different. In what I think will be a blow out, the Bears should hold Stafford to 1 TD and right around 200 yards passing. If you have better options take them. Although with all the bye’s in week 7, beggars can’t be choosers

RB - Shonn Greene

Again, here we are with a RB that blew up last week for a ton of points. I know some of you may be forced into starting him because of the bye weeks, but regardless of your situation you can’t expect even close to the same results from Green this week. Surprisingly enough the Patriots have been very good against the run so far this year.  They’re giving up only 82 yards a game, and have only given up 2 rushing TD’s so far.  Not only will it be difficult to run against the Patriots, but the Jets will be playing catch-up most of the game.

WR – Torrey Smith

Smith has scored at least one TD in 3 out of his last 4 games. While he hasn’t been racking up the yards, he has been a red zone target, and against the Texans, the Ravens will look to do the same.  I just don’t see the Houston D under performing the way they did against the Packers.  Unless you are forced to use him, I would look for a different option on Sunday.

Last Week’s Recap

Start’em “The Hits”

  • Michael Vick – It was sloppy but at least it was his best performance numbers wise in fantasy.
  • Kyle Rudolph – Had a solid game, and has become the second option for the Vikings, behind Harvin.

Sit’em “The Hits”

None

Start’em “Just Short”

  • Doug Martin – For only getting 13 carries he had a decent day with 76 yards, but no TD’s.

Start’em “Bust”

  • Andrew Luck – The Jets turned in there best defensive performance of the year, and completely shut Luck down.
  • Michael Turner – Just never got it going against a very game Raiders D.
  • Michael Crabtree – The Giants D came to play and totally shut everyone down.

Sit’em “Bust”

  • RG3 – Didn’t have a great day passing, but more than made up for it with his running ability.
  • Ahmad Bradshaw – A very impressive performance against a very good 49ers D.
  • A.J. Green – I thought Haden would hold him and check, unfortunately Green got the best of him.

No Decision “Injured”

  • Rashard Mendenhall – After praising him on his remarkable return from his torn ACL, he tweaks his Achilles, and missed most of the game.
