Start’em Sit’em Week 8

Start’em Sit’em Week 8

Week 8 brings us another heavy dose of some very good players on byes. With Baltimore, Houston, Cincinnati, and Buffalo taking the week off, your team could once again be missing some of its key players.  Also with more injuries occurring last week, the choices for replacements is thin to say the least. People are scrambling left and right for players, making some kind of trade, or frantically searching the waiver wire  just to put together a decent enough line up to get through the week. Whatever the case, you can’t afford to let the byes or injuries get to you; here are the players that will lead you to victory in Week 8.

“The Don’t Over Think’em Starters”

QB - Ben Roethlisberger

Just as most teams have this year, “Big Ben” will rip the Redskins secondary to shreds. Because of  the injuries the Steelers have at RB, they will have to lean more on the passing game this week.  Roethlisberger has averaged at least 290 yards passing and 1 TD a game so far this year. I see no reason for his numbers to be any different, if not better this week. “Big Ben” throws for 290 to 300 yards, and 2 TDs.

RB – Willis McGahee

In a game that has shoot out written all over it, McGahee should run wild against the Saints this Sunday. New Orleans is 31st against the run, and is giving up over 160 yards a game. Now I know Peyton will still throw the ball quite a bit, but in an effort to keep Brees off the field, the Broncos will attempt to run the ball.  In what should be one of McGahee’s best games of the year, he goes for over 110 yards rushing and 1 TD.

WR – Reggie Wayne

Even though Mr. Wayne has been fairly quiet the past couple of weeks, I see a big week for him against the Titans.  With both defenses being pretty weak I see a fairly high scoring game.  He is still Luck’s go to guy, and this Sunday Wayne goes off for at least 90 to 100 yards receiving, 6 to 7 receptions, and 1 TD .

“The Great Match-Up Favorites”

QB – Phillip Rivers

The Browns have been a mess most of this season, and even with the return of Joe Haden, their defense has been brutal.  With Rivers this year you get the good weeks and the not so good weeks. He has averaged at least 2 TD’s a game this year, the problem is Rivers isn’t always throwing  for big yards or is throwing too many INTs.  This week you will get the “Good Rivers”;  he throws for 280 to 290 yards, and 2 TDs.

RB -Frank Gore

Gore has been a pleasant surprise so far this year. He is a top 10 RB this year, and is coming off a 130 yard game against  a very good Seahawks D.  This week against a Cardinals D that has given up over 160 yards a game over the past two games, Gore should have another strong outing.  Gore steamrolls his way to a 100 yard day rushing, and at least 1 TD.

WR – Randall Cobb

With the continued injury problems for Greg Jennings and now a hamstring issue for Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb may be in line for his best game of the year. I know Cobb is coming off a 2 TD game last week, but in a game they may not need much from Nelson, Cobb should be the main target for Rodgers. Against a very weak Jaguars secondary, Cobb gets 7  to 8 receptions, 90 to 100 yards receiving, and at least 1 TD.

“The Tempting Sleepers”

QB – Tony Romo

If you are looking for that sleeper pick of the week, here it is. Tony Romo may be an average QB at best this year, but his best games lately have come against the Giants.  The opening game of the season Romo torched the Giants for easily his best performance of the year, and with all the injuries to their RBs, they will definitely have to throw it more. This week is a must win game for the Cowboys. If they want any shot at the Division title, Romo goes off again, throwing for over 300 yards, and at least 2 TDs.

RB – Alex Green

With some really good RBs on bye this week and some other RBs that may be injured, your team may need that good one week fix. Alex Green is that guy for this week.  This game should be well in hand by halftime, and Green should get a lot of chances to run the ball on Sunday.  Running against a very soft Jaguars D, Green has a field day, rushing for 90 to 100 yards, and 1 TD.

WR – Brian Hartline

After his one week explosion a couple weeks ago, Hartline has almost become invisible.      Partially because of that, the Dolphins have struggled to put points on the board. Coming off their bye week I feel very confident that Hartline will again become a major part of their offense.  In a bounce back game, Hartline has 6 to 7 receptions, 80 to 90 yards receiving, and 1 TD.

“Play At Your Own Peril”

QB – Cam Newton

It’s no big secret that Cam has been struggling this year. He has only scored double digit points twice so far this year. Going against possibly the best D in the league, in the Chicago Bears, I don’t see things getting any better for Newton this week.

RB  - Mikel Leshoure

I know some of you are in need of an RB for this weekends games, but Leshoure is definitely not the safest bet.  The Seahawks are one of the best teams against the run this year, and have only allowed 2 rushing TDs this year. I know Frank Gore torched them in their game last week, but Leshoure is no Frank Gore, and that’s For Sure!

WR – Larry Fitzgerald

I wrote in our weekly article “Fantasy High 5″ how disappointed I was in the season Fitz is having so far. Now don’t get me wrong, most of it is not his fault, but last year under similar circumstances Fitz was still very productive.

Without any steady run production, teams have just keyed in on Fitzgerald, and not let him beat them. This Sunday will be no different, the 49ers will shut him down again.

Last Week’s Recap

Start’em “The Hits”

  • Vincent Jackson – Monster game, and has found his way with his new team
  • Eli Manning- He didn’t throw for 2 TDs but had well over 300 yards passing to make up for it.
  • Carson Palmer – Another solid outing for the Raider QB. Now if they could just get McFadden on track!!
  • Chris Johnson - Patience finally paid off in a huge way. I do see that trend continuing this week.

Sit’em “The Hits”

  • Mathew Stafford – Yes he did throw for 1 TD very late in the game, but the Bears for the most part shut him down.
  • Torrey Smith- He is quickly becoming the new Mr. Inconsistent, 1 big game then disappears for 2.

Sit’em “Just Short”

  • Shonn Greene – He didn’t have a huge game, but he did score a TD and rushed for 54 yards. In some leagues that gets you 11 points,  just not bad enough to make his pick a Sit’em hit.

Start’em “Bust”

  • Jay Cutler – I could take the injury route on this one, but even before he got smashed by Suh, Cutler wasn’t having that great of a night.
  • Trent Richardson – Again I could take the injury route, the Browns said after the game that his ribs were bothering him more than they let on, THANKS!!
  • Felix Jones – Why do I even bother with him, the only time he ever produces is in the game when he replaces someone who gets hurt, not a game he actually starts.
  • Hakeem Nicks – A decent game with 5 catches for 53 yards, but no TDs. I guess he isn’t quite 100% yet.
  • Brandon Gibson – Another guy with a decent game; 5 catches for 60 yards, but again no TDs.
