Waiver Wire Pick Ups Week 6

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The following week 6 waiver wire pick ups are suggested back up replacement players that could help you with bye week problems.

Quarterback

Kevin Kolb- 24% owned- Kevin Kolb continues to be a great play from the waiver wire. Even though he had a rough week and took a bunch of sacks last week, Kolb proved he was tough. He made plays and while none of that helps his stat line, it is hard to find a waiver wire quarterback whose team has allowed him to pass the ball 98 times over the last two weeks, which only helps Kolb’s and Fitzgerald’s numbers. And it helps that the Bills have given up over forty points in three games this year.

Christian Ponder- 29% owned- Ponder is a great waiver wire pick up at QB this week, mainly because of the matchup. The Vikings don’t do anything special on offense. They usually run it pretty heavily, but with the Redskins giving up 300 passing yards in every game except Tampa Bay where Freeman went for 299. There is a good chance Percy Harvin will be heavily involved in that passing effort and maybe even a little Kyle Rudolph.

Sleeper Stash for Cash: Nick Foles (Eagles) – If Vick continues to turn the ball over and play clumsy football, there is a good chance that we could see this pre-season bright light for the Eagles.

Running backs

David Wilson- 18% owned-Finally, I think Coughlin has gotten over the fact that Wilson fumbled the ball and Wilson might be out of the dog house for now. He seems to be getting more touches (two, which is more than the zero he saw last week) and with Andre Brown out with a concussion Wilson becomes the backup running back to own from the Giants. Wilson had an impressive break away 40 yard touchdown run and hopefully will see an increased work load.

Kendall Hunter- 22% owned-While most of Hunter’s production came in garbage time and Gore did all the real work, Hunter still had some nice runs and produced 8 fantasy points. He had 11 carries and is the clear cut back up to Frank Gore, but it’s more like a 75 to 25 time share between the two. And if Gore goes down Hunter immediately becomes a top 15 fantasy running back. A sure-fire guy you want to have as an RB3 or RB4 stored away for a rainy day.

William Powell – Now that Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams is down and out, the next best player in line is Powell. Check out this Cardinals fantasy gem article here

Alex Green &/or James Starks- If you’re really in a bind you may have to choose between one of these two RB’s, but realistically, neither are great fantasy options after Benson was lost from an injury.

Wide Receivers

Rueben Randle-4 % owned- With Hakeem Nicks injury still giving him problems Randle is worth owning. Ramses Barden is also dealing with some injury issues and Randle has benefited hugely from the playing time. It is also reported that Randle spent some film study time with Eli and that can only help his chances of getting looks on the field. This week he had 9 targets and had 82 yards and if he would have caught a touchdown pass he would be on everyone’s radar, unfortunately for Randle Cruz caught three. Grab this guy while you still can especially if the injuries keep Barden and Nicks sidelined. And it can’t hurt that he has a talented accurate quarterback.

Brandon Gibson- 12% owned- After watching Amendola make an amazing catch it was very disappointing to see him leave the game with a collar bone injury. Apparently the injury could have killed him. And with an injury that serious the Rams will be hesitant to get him back out there. But Gibson won’t mind because the ball will be coming his way a lot more from Bradford. Also the touches may increase for Steven Jackson. But if the Rams want to pass at all this is the man that will be catching them. So here is a cheap “most targeted player in the offense” for the taking.

Earl Bennett- ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Monday Night Countdown that Bears Alshon Jeffery’s fractured right hand is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Adding Bennett to your roster is a real reach, and may be better off for fantasy teams with deep rosters, his value ranks quite low.

Tight Ends

Joel Dreessen- 7% owned- The touchdown vulture plaguing Jacob Tamme so far is Joel Dreessen kind of similar to the Greg Olsen-Jeremy Shockey situation last year in Carolina. Dreessen is not an every week play but if he catches that one touchdown pass, which he has done in back to back games heading into this week against the Chargers then it will be worth it, especially since most people are looking to grab someone for Jimmy Graham, or Greg Olsen this week. Dreessen has also scored 9.60, 7.70, and 8.10 in his last three games respectfully.

Anthony Fasano- 5% owned- A very under the radar guy, but has not posted a zero in fantasy points all year. He is not a boom or bust but has been consistently targeted and if you need a guy to fill in and want to make sure he gives you something then I would take this guy. He has potential and upside but is very consistent and catches the ball well. With twenty seven targets on the year and twenty eight yards per game Fasano will be there to give you a few points.

Kicker

Phil Dawson- 14% owned- Phil Dawson is a very good kicker to own and a great replacement for a kicker on BYE this week. Dawson is 100% on field goals this year and on extra points. The Browns have all the components of an offense that can’t finish drives. What happens when they throw an incomplete pass, then the defense stacks the box and Richardson gets two yards, then Weeden almost throws a pick? They say Dawson get in here son and go knock that one through for us. This guy should see an increase in attempts soon.

Team Defense/Special Teams

St. Louis- 19% owned- After a strong performance shutting down the Cardinals last week the Rams defense looks to keep it rolling against the Dolphins pathetic offense. They should be a good play this week, even though the game is on the road.
